and sell the land. Therefore allowing them to make more £50,000 league 2 signings.

Heslop and the rest may as well pack up and leave now.

    Agreed Because.......

it's an obvious waste of money if we think lower league players are better than what we have. Did you hear that fan on Radio Sheffield who said Joynes and Heslop should be given a chance ? Couldn't agree more with it.

    What has it produced?

    Flinders.

I'm not counting Atkinson. We've stumbled upon him by mistake as we had nobody else. He'd been condemmed to the conference this season until Kay and Reid were out injured and we couldn't sign anyone as we were still in transfer blackout period.

Heslop and Joynes don't ever stand a chance. Too many fringe midfielders for Heslop, and its going to take something along the Atkinson route for Joynes to get his chance, even though we've now got Coulson, Nardiello, Hayes Constantine and Jarman in front of him.

I don't think we're in a position to blood the youngsters at the minute. Nor do I think we have the funds to finance the proven quality we all want to see. So that leaves us looking for players we can afford and who we think can make the step up to Championship class in the near future.

By near future I mean within a month.

Do you honestly think Heslop or Joynes would improve that much that quickly?

I am pleased for Atkinson - he's grasped his chance well - but that doesn't mean it'll work every time.

But when are they ever going to get that chance? Hence the close the academy point.

Heslop - What would he have had to do to at least match the performance by Mattis today?

My point is, a crisis is not the ideal time to blood youngsters - a volatile crowd and extra weight of expectation are negative factors. By all means have a look at one or two if/when we find ourselves in a comfortable position but not right now. Tough for those who are desperate for, and maybe even worth a chance but IMO the right decision.

Mattis did not play well today. That is no secret. But let's see in a month if he's cutting it. Kidd has worked with Mattis before and must have seen something. Let's not be too hasty eh?
