    1. People born into privilaged families, doing something that the rest of us never got/will get a chance to do and then being hailed a hero because of it. Examples Bear Grylls

I agree about people being hailed as heroes for non-heroic feats. Such as musicians and actors.

However, I have never once felt envious of people born in to money. I've got what I've got and I make the most of it.

I don't care about people born into money, it doesn't make me envious at all. It just bugs me when they suddenly become heroes and 'brave' for doing things that they have only done because basically they didn't need money when they grew up and were allowed to spend their early adulthood pissing about.

I agree. The things that general society seems to class as 'brave' these days are very odd.

Bear is a good Christian boy who hasn't done anything most fit guys coudn't do.

He has worked hard to get were he is and almost died for it. As a Terrier he passed the SAS selection at the second attempt. The guy is made out of the "Right Stuff". What's your military record Mr Superdooper Tyke? Before you ask I was a REME Territorial with no claim of being a hero.

    agreed manlito, personally 32 years

22 RAF then carried on 10 years as MoD working for the RAF. Jet propulsion tech. Spent a few tours in dodgy places too. Took up SCUBA, Ski-Ing, learned to ride and took up golf... this ****** the OP has said is just pure jealousy. If a person wants to do something in this world its down to him ...its out there go grab it. Sadly a whole too many want it handing on a plate by the social security..now thats the worst sickener.

The sense of entitlement that many seem to have (particularly today's teenagers) really drives me nuts.

Hard work is what gets you things in this life not holding your hand out and expecting to be gifted stuff.

Even worse when sulking and kicking off ensues when they don't get what the want

My mistake, I was under the impression that Bear Grylls was taught how to sail and things by his VERY rich daddy and that his skills were learnt when daddy paid for him to do them all. I thought he had been a member of the mountaineering club at Eaton and that he had only joined the TA after spending time crossing the himilayas picking up lots of skills, all funded by daddy of course.

Sadly, if for example you or I had wanted to do any of these things they would have been impossible due to financial constraints.

Now as I've said before, I've got nowt against him, good on him for doing the things he was privilaged enough to do. Can't blame him one bit for that. But I just don't think that makes him an hero or anything like the media often makes out.

mate I apologise if I have upset you

but you came a cross as totally jealous.I agree some do get the chances due to a silver spoon. Is it Bears fault that his parents made their way in life and thus he was afforded the good life. I really do not think so. What I am saying is that you can make your own luck, Or wallow in self pity. I chose the former. People often say I am lucky to have done all I have done and seen the world as much as I have , Mate it was through sheer graft. I am no Richard Branson or Rothschild for that matter. I am comfortable and have no major money worries. But luck has never played a part, I worked dammed hard for allthe modest comforts I have, and tookthe chances and opportunity that the armed forces gave me. I say again If people want it then its out there and available and legally too. Volunteer work overseas for example, just depends on the individuals work ethic. Take a look at people like Alan Sugar, Richard Branson and even Patrick Cryne self made millionaires....they grafted its that simple.

Well I sail with a mate who bought his boat for £500. His Dad, who was a lorry driver taught him to sail, in a fashion. We have great fun capsizing at Pugney's. I actually think he's trying to drown me. Like Grylls I went to Uni at the age of 31 and ran X Country.

I have only climbed mountains in the UK and fell off Great Gable in October, thank you Whitehaven Hospital for stitching me up. But you can get to climb the 8000 metre peaks as the ex-miner Andy Cave has without being rich. You just have to work hard to get sponsorships or be a good enough mountaineer to get invited to climb with a team.

Now the ones that do bug me are Rich Boys like Cameron and Osbourne (not Ozzie) who are where they are because of who they are and family wealth.

Prince Edward is another one who really bugs me. He couldn't cut it in the Marines. Then ran a couple of failed businesses and was then put on the Royal pay role with his wife. Prince Andrew is also trying to get his girls on the gravy train too but he did do his bit in the Falklands.

The thing that bugs me to screaming madness is people who can't say words beginning with the letters 'st...' like 'street' and 'stretch' without putting in an 'h' and it sounding like 'shtreet' and 'shtretch'

I am not privileged but I went to school and was taught grammar and spelling; even if I hadn't done so, I would have used the spellchecker and grammar correcter on my computer to send a coherent message.

Does anyone else get the feeling that everyone is arguing with each other in this thread when they actually all agree?

When people write "should of" instead of "should have". Little thing that grates me so much!!
