By playing JCR in central midfield, Davey has turned the fans against him. He was shocking yesterday, and has been since about mid Januuary - coincidentally when Davey decided he could play CM. He is probably our best attacking player. He is a very good winger. The fans abusing JCR is probably some perverse way of trying to get through to Davey, but I bet it didn't feel like that for JCR, getting booed by people who worshipped him two months ago. Muller needs a good kick up the arse. How this is done I don't know. If you drop him with 4 games to go, then I don't know how Steel would react. Yesterday's **** up was the crowning moment of a season of jittery flapping and ***** kicking. Give Steel ago? He reacted pretty well at Anfield last season. Whatever formation we played yesterday in the first half didn't work. Christ knows what it was, but it seemed to be 3 central midfielders and 1 winger. JCR just gets in the way in the middle, and when he had the ball, there was no outlet on the left. If JCR was on the left, then we would have had a lot more balance and threat. It would also have stopped their right back and right wing killing us. Have our defensive players forgotten how to close down the opposition? The number of times their midfield had shooting opportunites was ridiculous. Muller saved one, one went just wide, and then Gomez scored. By the way, Gomez is left footed. Did we not realise that when we invited him to switch to his left and shoot? Pathetic. I was impressed by Hammill, Hassell, Anderson and Foster. These were the only players to clap the fans at the end of the game. The others couldn't get down the tunnel fast enough. I would not like to mess with Jason Scotland. Pathetic.
we also learned yesterday that we cannot rely on the teams above us to beat the teams around us alla Sheff United and Watford, what ever way we look at it every point from now to Plymouth is a fight and the faster Davey relises this and starts playing a formation with everybody in the right roles with none of these fancy floating or trequartista roles the better, its going to be a fight and struggle, but there going to have to take us into that bottom 3 kicking and screaming because im pretty sure that none of the lads on our team want to be relegated. We should be ok with our 4 better goal difference on Forest hopefully if they lose one and we win that should help us out immensley, but we may not be so lucky next year, better to get rid of Simon straight after Plymouth stay up or go down hes gone, give the new Manager the preseason to do what he wants, if we have more of the same then que sera its not like we didnt try to change it.
I agree with that absolutely. Early season it was a joy to watch JCR tearing down the touch line and cutting in to the box. It was that form that made JCR such a valuable target in the window. Then suddenly we couldn't play 4-4-2 anymore because we would get over run in the middle! Really ? Does that happen to all teams that play 4-4-2 ? Also we suddenly found that JCR was in his best position further up the field, in the middle. Despite ample evidence to the contrary, during which time our best asset has been turned into a shadow of his former self, we have continued in the same old vein. We weren't doing too badly with wingers. We have been bloody awful without them- the football has declined, the results have declined. Now we have four games left for survival. To think that that this team would be relegated is a nightmare- it is probably the best squad we have had in ages. It would be massive underachievement- and the only thing I can put it down to is the tactics. Davey and the players need to sit down and work it through. If Patrick can see what everyone else can then its time for a word in our managers ear. We should NOT go down with this squad. Get the tactics right please and play to the strengths of our best players. We curently have three players who on their day can destroy any other teams down the wings. Let's use them to do it!
And if you're gonna have 3 centre midfielders one of em has to be a holder ie Colace.
When I saw the midfield yesterday I thought 'great, 442 with 2 wingers'. I couldn't believe he'd choose those four and play 3 of em in the middle.
