5* and cheap as chips. Proper nice, and they really look after you.

Plenty to do and see too mate- it wasn't top of my list of Euro cities to visit but its top draw and I'd go back.

The Olympic stadium is worth going to- I timed it to watch a Hertha Berlin match. There's a belting museum of Berlin history too but can't remember the name. Covers Berlin from small settlement right thru to present day, loads of war stuff as you'd expect.

I did Passau (near Munich) on the German/Austrian Border by car for a four day break

Hull-Rotterdam-Passau. 10 1/2 hours driving from Rotterdam. The Autobahns are terrifying if you haven't got a 150mph car.

fantastic place-any number of hotels depending on your price range-we stayed just off Unter den Linden

get a travel pass-the public transport is excellent-we ate very well-mainly open air-and despite my fears food and drink were reasonable-much cheaper than Rome-just for the experience have a drink at the (very expensive) Hotel Adlon? right by the Brandenberg gate -at night is best

do the tourist bus early on-it gives you a good idea of where things are-if you have time the river/canal trip gives a different perspective

and do the checkpoint charlie museum before anything alse if you want to gat an idea of what it was like when the wall was up-not everyone wants to talk about that period

Pottsdammer platz is stunning-particularly when you see in the museum what it was like in the wall era

For a treat -if you like that sort of thing -Sans Soucci? at Potsdam is worth the rail trip-a mini Versailles-amazed that the East Germans didn't flatten it !!

oh and don't mention the war!! (only joking)
