Not including away fans, yesterday's match was the 3rd highest 'home' attendance of the season which hopefully means the stay aways are slowly coming back... vs. Southampton - 9,584 vs. Doncaster Rovers - 9,458 vs. Crystal Palace - 9,296 vs. Watford - 9,186 vs. Coventry City - 8,820 vs. Leicester City - 8,756 vs. Burnley - 8,727 vs. Middlesbrough - 8,721 vs. Bristol City - 8,546 vs. Hull City - 8,430 It was also the smallest away following we've seen at Oakwell this year: Doncaster Rovers - 2,325 Leicester City - 2,106 Middlesbrough - 1,882 Hull City - 1,439 Burnley - 965 Southampton - 917 Coventry City - 667 Watford - 547 Bristol City - 354 Crystal Palace - 228 Attendances (highest - lowest) overall: vs. Doncaster Rovers - 11,784 vs. Leicester City - 10,862 vs. Middlesbrough - 10,603 vs. Southampton - 10,501 vs. Hull City - 9,869 vs. Watford - 9,733 vs. Burnley - 9,692 vs. Crystal Palace - 9,524 vs. Coventry City - 9,497 vs. Bristol City - 8,900
Be nice to break the 10000 mark on Saturday, I reckon a 3pm non-sky game would have done it....but then again it would have stayed at a CAT A game then. Boxing day should be a good crowd, and then Leeds should be a belter.
Re: Wasn't Southampton a category A game? surely it would just have been easier at the start of the season to charge £20 across the board. the club have driven fans away with the stupid category system, and i don't think a lot of them will rush back. i bet you most of the stayaways still think it's £30 per game, most games.
Re: Wasn't Southampton a category A game? Agreed, I keep getting told it £30 now at Oakwell. I think the evidence that it's not working is clear as the stats stack up. 3rd best attendance on a cold Tuesday night against an unatractive club with poor away support.
Re: Wasn't Southampton a category A game? Right or wrong, the club are making more money from cat A games than C, so like it or not, they're justified in doing it. They've to find the balance between price and attendances, however it seems we can't pull in crowds regardless of the price.
Re: Wasn't Southampton a category A game? Just over 9000 is pretty normal for Barnsley at this level. We have largely attracted this number of home support at this level for years and years. We are never going to get many more apart from the "high" profile games every now and then.....By the way, ALL clubs have a few thousand stayaways so we are no different at all in that respect.
Re: Wasn't Southampton a category A game? There wasn't much change in the season ticket prices and it's 1500 ST holders we've lost, people are feeling the crunch this season more than last. Why else would 1500 season ticket holders not renew after a fairly decent end to last season after the win against Millwall?
But most on here were glad both Sheffield clubs got relegated and that Huddersfield lost the play off final. I reckon in the couple of years Pigs have not been in our league, Blunts not being there this season, and Huddersfield not being promoted in May has in those four lost home games lost us an hefty bit of revenue our poor club could have done with.
That's a very short sighted view though. In the long run us being the top team in the area will mean that it is US who get the new fans and our revenue will swell. I'd rather have a long term increased fanbase over 2 big pay days a year every time.
Agreed, but everyone's forgetting how many the Blades bring... It's like listening to Brian the Blade, Donny brought more fans this year than the Blades have in the last two years.
I just don't see that these days, too expensive. A stint in the premier league would undoubtedly bring more fans, new and old, through the gate. . . .but that would surely be the case whatever league the deedars or whoever were in. Of course, bits of success in the Championship will bring a few of the old fans back, but is there really local people out these with no allegiance to clubs waiting to pay £ £30 a ticket and start supporting a club? I'm not sure I see it. Give me some local derbies in a season, but tonking them everytime!
Re: Wasn't Southampton a category A game? You're probably right but they must live on mars if they dont hear the news on Radio Sheffield, read it on here or one of the other forums, read it in the chronicle or through club marketing. Not knowing about it in this day and age is a pretty weak excuse.
