    Sounds like Burnley got well and truly stitched up there. What hope have small clubs got when they spend good money on talent scouting and then big clubs can unsettle even their youth players? They get an offer in (to be fair this could have been solicited or at least welcomed but it doesn't sound like it from the report) and then the lad refuses to return to training.

    "The player was unwilling to come back to Burnley so we didn't have a choice in keeping him here," Burnley operational director Brendan Flood told his club's website. "He was going to go to one of the clubs chasing his signature and in the end, we all felt that Manchester United was the right option. "He has a good future ahead of him and hopefully we can try and keep youngsters of John's quality at the club in future."

    How exactly? I hope for their sake they were after the cash and the sell-on clause from the outset otherwise it looks like another sorry episode for football.

    that's another reason Cotterill quit
