I still have memories of an announcement at Oakwell in the seventies; "Will the owner of car registration number ******* please return to your vehicle in the car park, as it is on fire".
When I was at University in Colchester in the late 80s, the Northern Ireland tensions were still high and security was tight. A few of us used to watch Colchester United for a laugh as we could get a student season ticket for a tenner. Bargain. Many of you will recall that the old ground on Layer Road used to be almost opposite a barracks. Well, one Tuesday night game, it appeared that someone had parked their car up too close to the barracks entrance. There was a tannoy announcement along the lines of "will the owner of vehicle ******, parked next to the barracks entrance, please move your car immediately otherwise it will be blown up"
