apparently they have to accept or reject our offer for Ward within 48 hours. What good does that do? If they don't will we pull out of the transfer? How does that help us? It's just cutting off your nose to spite your face. I remember the deadline we imposed on the Argentinian FA regarding the paper work for Colace's transfer. We ended up waiting another few weeks. It just proved how impotent we were. And here we are, doing it again. Chesterfield hold all the cards and will work in their own good time. Us throwing our weight about will probably just antagonise them. It's not like there aren't other clubs interested in Ward. Maybe things would move along faster if we asked politely for the transfer to go ahead as quickly as possible, rather than making demands.
I don't see the problem. We'll give you £xxx for him and you have to decide if you want to sell him for that within 48 hours. Or we'll go somewhere else.
Or maybe ... Wehave other targets lined up and don't want to risk losing them whilst we wait around for Ward. Seems entirely reasonable to me to say that: here's a bloody good deal take it or leave it. We avoid a bidding war and if we're not going to get him at that price (which seems incredibly generous to me given his contract and current division) then we move on to other targets.
I think its spot on....we are not going to get into a bidding war. Take it or leave it. Personally i hope the deal doesn't go through.
The Colace deal was different... I don't think we could have sent him back to the Argentinean FA or cut off the deal. Whereas here we're basically saying take it or leave it you can't hold us to ransom. Also, like someone else mentioned, other targets may get snapped up in the meantime if they mess about.
It wasn't different We have no control in either situation. All we can do is call the transfer off and as we obviously want him that course of action only hurts us. It's an empty, meaningless gesture that can only **** ourselves up.
RE: It wasn't different Wasn't it the Argentinean FA who weren't releasing the paper, not his club? If you made a deal with the club, and it's their FA's fault I don't think you could call it off. We're not waiting on papers or anything here. We're saying here's our offer take it or leave it. It speeds things up and (hopefully) ensures we get a striker for Saturday, either Ward or one of the others supposedly lined up.
It makes perfect sense. 400k is a very good offer and the only reson it will be turned down is if Chesterfield think they will get more from somone else. By saying this we wont pay over the odds. There may already be similar offers in place for other players that have not been made public knowledge by a greedy agent.
