Me too, if the drought gets any wetter the river will be in the middle of the road!!! A man on the radio this morning said that all this rain changed nothing as the rain was just going straight down the drains and not beeing saved, apparently its because we now have too much water , so we cant save it and the drought is no better!!!!
Re: floods now How do you mean. It hasn't changed I dont think? There's a big new post button at the top of the forum (or there is for me)
It's pretty straight forward, the water needs to soak through into the water table, instead because it's coming down in such quantities, the majority is just running off into the drains and rivers. However, Yorkshire reservoirs are already at 95% capacity, it's down south and in Lincolnshire where they have the issues.
Well actually the water could be collected its just the southern water companies would need to spend money to do that They actually rely as Eaststander says on water seeping into the ground - which it does if we have wet soil all through the winter. If you get a years rain in 1 month it doesnt really help as most runs off any you still only get 1 months worth of recharging Doesnt apply the same where water is collected in resevoirs - the rivers swell and fill up the reservoirs quickly so if the drought had been in Yorkshire or the lancs then a years worth of rain in a month will fill all the reservoirs up
The hose pipe ban has really started taking its toll now. I mean what the heck am I supposed to use to siphon this flood out of my living room?
