I have no problem "Hecky" getting the job, but if you appoint a manager he needs authority & a mandate. We need to interview half a dozen candidates & given the continuity issue, if he is the best candidate he should be given the job & at least a one year contract. Half of our team is out of contract at the end of the season & should things not go brilliantly we'll be called to bring in someone else in the summer. All good performers will sign elsewhere & we'll have 2 weeks to get a team together. I like the bloke, but either back him, or leave him in his existing job. Don't judge him on 18 games.
Wrought this at half 2 this aft..... nearly t'same.. The problem I have is not with Hecky, but this EoS thing.. Are folk just trying to edge their bets here..? Do we really want to go into the summer with loans and out of contracts departed... looking for another half a dozen new players, plus a new Head Coach/Manager.? id say not... Id give Hecky the rest of this month, the next 3 games say.... Depending on how things are looking then, either offer him the job full time, on long term deal or rolling contract. Or leave him as coach and get someone else in. Get someone else in with enough of this season left, that they have assessed, and know what they'd like to keep and what needs to strengthen long before pre-season. So no not EoS for me.......Id say Hecky on a long term, or a new man in, by the end of the month.
If things go badly from now on it is likely he'll get dumped at the end of the season. The length of a contract seems to simply dictate the amount of compensation payable when the contract is (inevitably, one way or the other) broken. LJ's contract has made little difference to what happened with him. Continuing advertising and interviewing is just as disruptive as letting him have a go. And 18 games is about right for judging. No real pressure on him cos we aren't threatened by relegation, which makes a change for someone newly in the hot seat. And if he's doing his job right he'll have signed up the better players.
I think you would have to advertise the post, see who applies, interview the best and make a decision then.
That is probably fair enough. But when picking a new manager / head coach you are picking someone from a travelling circus, the performers in which you are not only familiar with but also you have no doubt seen fall once or twice off the high wire. Do we need a new act? Fair chance is he'll be called a clown by the end of the season. Lets just keep the show on the road for now.
