I've been thinking that Sheffield United could be using this as a publicity stunt , raising the profile of the club by the story being plastered on sky sports news, bbc sport etc. I know it's bad publicity at the moment but as soon as they decide that they won't sign him, I can't help but think they will start getting praise for doing so. Hopefully I'm wrong and they implode.

Can't see it mate - this is a PR disaster for them.

When all is said and done, if he was a centre back they got on a free, they wouldn't have let him return. So its all down to money. However, the amount of financial revenue they will lose as a result of this will far outweigh the returns I reckon.

The best thing they can do now they have been dumb enough to let him train is to let him carry on for a bit and then in a few weeks quietly discontinue the arrangement. The owner and chairman wont come out and cancel the training agreement now as it then looks (rightly) as if they are bowing to public pressure and they wont do that.

The whole thing is a complete fiasco - the club looks stupid , they have pissed off their manager and a large number of their fans and probably pissed off some of the players as well.

Hard to see how they could have done any worse. It would be hilarious if it wasn't for the fact that its hard to find humor in a rape

what about the rehabilitation of offenders act, surely if they withdraw permission for him training with them due to an offence hes served his time for they could be in breach of some act................. I don't know I'm just saying

Let him get fit so he can bugger off to the IPL and we can forget all about him!

They have no obligation at all to have him training with them as far as I'm aware. They say it's a PFA request and they've agreed. It maybe so but I still reckon they'd be well within their rights to decline because of the very reason that 'what's happened' - patrons, sponsors, fans etc.

I'm dubious anyway regards the PFA request been the sole reason for his return. They've openly admitted they were in contact with him whilst still serving his sentence and on his subsequent release.

I'm sure they thought there wouldn't be quite the outcry and reaction there's been. Plus they'd get a £3-4 million striker for nowt and be able to pay him far less than the going rate?!?

There must be something in it for them, if not why didn't they tell PFA to ask some other team to take him?
