Depends how you look at it. He had amazing success with the Libertines with platinum albums and sold out gigs around the world prior to the tabloids putting his addiction all over.

So just because you only heard of him because he's shagging Kate Moss doesn't mean he isn't famous to others for his songwriting and undoubtable musical talent.
