Not displaying valid tax, driving without a valid MOT and now driving in a bus lane! I think I'm just going to renew my railcard.
Did you forget that brightly coloured disc in the left had corner of your windscreen, which has big letters and numbers showing the date, had run out? Even after having a reminder in the post.
I still had my old one showing, forgot to replace it, silly mistake. I don't even remember the bus lane incident, but I always get lost in Glasgow's one way street maze MOT was the major, yet genuine, fault. It was renewed 24 hours later so I have my fingers crossed they'll take that in to consideration. It's a waiting game.
When you say it was renewed 24 hours later do you mean 24 hours after the police informed you that you didn't have any or 24 hours after it ran out? (and before the police were aware)
24 hours after I'd been stopped it was renewed and presented at my local station straight away to prove it was a genuine mistake. My insurance is fully comp and fully paid up, although technically I'm sure having an expired MOT does invalidate your insurance. July wasn't my month
I'm not sure that getting an MOT quickly after they caught you is much of a defence/case for leniency really because for all they know you could have planned to never get it tested until you got caught. I mean mine's due soon so I could just not get it tested and wait till I get caught and then rush out to get the test done and claim that it proves it was an accident. I'm not saying thats what you did, I'm just saying its how they might look at it. Add that to not displaying your tax and they might not be very kind to you at all. On the positive side though you did have insurance and you can prove that you had paid for the tax disk already and just forgot to change it over so that should go in your favour. Did your car go straight through it's MOT or need anything doing to it? If it went straight through then again it should go in your favour because it shows that you werent trying to hide a defect.
I blame hemsworth tyke. We're all that used to reading gibberish that we can't even read it correctly when someone posts in proper english.
I told them it was a genuine mistake and they seemed to be on my side, it sailed through its MOT without a single fault, I just genuinely forgot to get it renewed. It was actually in for a service at the same garage I use for the MOT only 3 days before I was stopped, surprised they never noticed the missing MOT either. Not trying to defend myself at all, I accepted the charges and will pay both fines in full as soon as they drop on my doorstep as I have broken the law, not intentionally, but I've still done it.
I once drove around for a month without any MOT. Completely by accident but I still did it. Nobody noticed at all so I got away with it. I've also done the same as you and forgot to change my tax disk over. Bought it online a month before it was due and just put it in my drawer till the end of the month until about a week into the new month when I found it and ran out to change it over. Again I didn't get caught. If you havent heard of it before it's worth signing up for an MOT reminder. you get a text when your MOT is due so you don't forget. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_192284
Thanks for the link, I'll have a look. As human beings we all make mistakes, apart from the police, of course. In the words of Michael Winner, "Did you know you can drive in the bus lane for just £60? What a bargain!"
reminds me of the classic line from a driving test. tester what is the next sequence from a traffic light, red, red and amber, and learner don't know mate av gone by then.
My sister drove without insurance for three months until she was stopped by the police. She'd bought a new car 9 months earlier, which was advertised with free insurance, She assumed this to be for 12 months, and expected a renewal reminder after this period. She obtained insurance immediately, and the police let her off as they considered it a genuine mistake.
