Depending on what happens against Wolves on Saturday, Plymouth away could be every single bit as important to this football club as the Cardiff playoff final. When we were playing for Championship status we took 20,000 plus to that game. Now we're playing to keep our Championship status - the game is every bit as critical. How many fans are we going to take? Will we measure it in the hundreds? I've been thinking about this all day. I'm not sure that I can stay away from that game. I know it's a long way, but if it was a play-off final or a wembley semi-final you know we'd all be queuing up moaning about the ticket allocation. Here we find ourselves - one big ninety minutes - it's as much of a decider, as much of a final, as any other big game we've had. It's not as glamourous - but if the club ever needed the support - it now more than ever. It's winner takes all stuff, we should sell that place out and turn Plymouth into Barnsley for the day. I know there's a lot of things that could happen over the next two games - but these are some of the things I've considered (for better and for worse): We have two points on Norwich, they have goal difference advantage, (thanks to the eight goals at Norwich - four off us, four on them). There are six points to play for. There are no 'moral victories'. We win on Saturday, Norwich don't win (i.e. draw or lose) - we go at least four points clear, we're safe. We draw on Saturday, Norwich don't win. Final day of the season we need EITHER Norwich to lose or draw. We would be safe. We draw on Saturday, Norwich also draw. Final day of the season we win. We are safe. We lose on Saturday, Norwich draw. We win on the final day of the season. We are safe. We lose on Saturday, Norwich Draw. We draw on the final day of the season. Norwich don't win. We are safe. We lose on Saturday, Norwich win. They go above us in the table by one point (and goal difference). We win on the final day, they do not win. We are safe. We lose on Saturday, Norwich win. They go above us in the table, Norwich draw on the final day, we concede a late equaliser, we get relegated. We win on Saturday, so do Norwich. We draw on the final day. Norwich win. We get relegated. Chuff me - if we draw both games, Norwich need to win one and draw one. If Norwich lose on Saturday they are really in the ****. I know that we've been infuriating and awful at times this season - but it could just be that our only saving grace is the fact that Norwich might just be inches the wrong side of us... ...that being said it could just be that they show some character we go go down on goal difference. Despite my classic 'never going back while Davey is in charge' rant a few days ago (after the Swansea match) - I'll be there for Wolves, and no doubt at Plymouth too. Until the bitter end. I cannot wait until Davey has gone.
Just to complicate things... ...it isn't just about Norwich. 'We win on Saturday, so do Norwich. We draw on the final day. Norwich win. We get relegated.' It aint necessarily so. Any scenario that has us beating Wolves would potentially put us above Forest and Plymouth. Seeing as we play Plymouth, a draw would relegate them, if indeed they did lose this weekend (or if they drew and we had overturned the -2 goal difference between us and them).
that's a good point 'BRF' about how many we'd take to a play off final,in the first 2 lines above, but I'm sure if we need the points there will be more than average (sorry i didn't read all the other scenarios though).
