Blimey, that takes me back. When I was a kid, I tried Knur and Spell a few times on Dodworth Welfare. Most of the time, I'd totally miss it and corkscrew myself into the ground!:D However, when you did connect, it felt brilliant. Oh, and there was always an 'expert' close by, as old as Methuselah, quite happy to tell you in minute detail where you were going wrong, but never willing to give a practical demonstration.:D

Funnily enough I was channel hopping on TV here and caught the last few seconds of a programme where there was an item on a competition that looked exactly like nipsy that is still played here between rival hilltop communities. Unfortunately I didn't see the region in Italy where it is still played. 'Working mans golf' I always called it but a damn site harder as at least a golf ball stays put when you are trying to hit it. Rory McIlroy take note!!

R&A should to introduce it into the modern game when teeing off, - would make it more interesting!

My dad said they played it in Ackworth and Fitzwilliam, certainly sounds like the same game anyway but called nipsy.
