It was sung but was a song sung by most teams. We only use 2 songs now because they have to be simple one liners for the youngsters to remember.
My favourite chant of yesteryear, was 'We Want Spackman Out, Say We Want Spackman Out' at Hillsborough. It worked.
We've got loads of originals. "Keith Hill's Red n White Army" seems to be the main one these days, and the one sung with most gusto.. "Barnserleeey, Barnserleeey, Barnserleeeeey....... etc etc" is always a difficult one to remember, with the amount of words involved... "Red Army! Red Army! Red Army" which peters out after about 10 seconds these days... "E I E I E I O....." which we usually sing early into a season, whilst we can, whilst it's a possibility.. "It's Just Like Watching Brazil.." whenever we're winning a game by more than one goal.. "Oh Bobby Hassell...." sung whenever Bobby plays it seems, which granted, isn't often under Keith Hill, but still.... "England's Number One..." whenever we have a keeper that's English and isn't gash.. I know loads of decent songs we could sing, as do others who have often posted them on here... but it's getting them out there and attempted that's the problem. I do like the "Look Where We Are.." chant we've started singing recently. I think we should be inventing a few more songs that are self-mocking.
Keefs red and white and red army at home, go on tell mi am wrong and probs am but it seems them 2 in the main. We had a spell last season of flying over to Hillsbro, which were good.
Oh and we get the "DeeDar DeeDar DeeDar" chants on the 15th December............ I remember last season against Ipswich, on Sky, the Ponty End singing "Are You Watching Sheffield..?" as we led 2-0.... before we got 5 stuck past us in the second half. Ahhhhhhh, memories.
Some of my favourite chants of yesteryear: The Ronnie Glavin song You're going home in a Yorkshire ambulance You what, you what, you what, you what, you!!! YRA
Didn't we used to sing marching on together ? Could be wrong Two more? You're going home in a Barnsley ambulance !! You're in the valley, the valley of death!!! We could do a united and sing old songs like they still do about cantona
We did used to sing Marching on Together! Embarrassing to say the least, you'd get kicked in now for singing that. Our casual movement of the 80s have a lot to answer for...
how about this one??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4olXAfOk6M can just see this being bellowed out in the east stand
i am sure we could alter some of the lyrics and .... all wear low slung jeans showing our Y fronts (complete with saturday - day before wash -stains) then REDZ baseball caps and some baseball styleeee nike jackets..... sorted..... rapping reds from da Eastside... innit...
