The spirit of Lord Rothermere lives on today it seems. Always remember me Grandad telling me about how there were plenty of folks going round in the late 30's encouraging the idea that Britain should align with Germany, which basically meant coming under German rule. And all the pleasures that would entail at the time.

Re: These are worth a read too I had read the article in the Spectator already and it was a very good read indeed; it raised some very valid and pertinent points.
Re: These are worth a read too It (seemingly purposely) confuses Marxists and Soviet apologists to make them seem like the same thing, though. I know a large number of Marxists, as well as many people who would describe themselves as radically left-wing but not necessarily Marxist, and can't think of any of them who would say that the Soviet Union turned into anything but a disgracefully unequal autocratic military state which caused immeasurable suffering to its citizens. (There was, however, one avowed Stalinist who I went to university with who came out with the brilliant line "Say what you want about the Soviet Union - at least it was a workers' state").
Re: These are worth a read too I'm still not sure why you think these stories make it ok for the Daily Mail to have said what it did about Ralph Milliband. It was wrong. It was also wrong of Hitler to murder people and Stalin to murder people, but that does not make the Daily Mail any more right.
