could well prove costly. Yes the players have done well SO fAR. Therein lies the problem. In order to keep up our promotion aspirations, we need to, & have needed to, for a couple of weeks at least now, step it up like Southend have done. Unfortunately we have been unable to do this (3 points out of the last possible 12 would confirm this)I know we've only lost 4 games in 27 (I think)but a stat like that & our current position proves that we seem incapable of making the push that would make the Play-offs a formality & would give us a realistic chance of automatic promotion.I'm not being negative, just realistic.Cue slagging off from Rose tinted specs brigade
i dunno its easy to make a sweeping generalisation but in the past the managers i have worked hardest for are the ones who are decent people and use the carrot as opposed to the stick because they lead by example and i dont wanna let em down
Shouldn't "this Loyalty thing" extend to the supporters as well, who have been there at every opportunity and have spent their hard earned cash over the past season.
fair doos in what he is saying but its a replacement for BURNS we want - nobody else! I cant see that the players would have an issue in that. If all the players got injured would it be a disservice to them if we put someone else in their place? It has to stop somewhere.
and another thing - didnt we want competition for places? If you look at the extreme i.e. Sheff Utd, then we dontr want that. We want something that is missing and also some extra cover and competition for places. Not to do a Colin!
RE: i dunno But this isn't really a Carrot or Stick situation is it! It seems to me that this purely an economics exercise, all nicely wrapped up in this "Respect" thing.
not really he seems to go for the nicely nicely approach and has done before. giving the players plenty of respect and demanding the same back from them. such as when he gives the players a day to think about the match etc. dunno about you but my boss is a good lad - if let him down i feel really crap and it motivates me to work. maybe same approach works with ritchtea. see what your saying though - could just be a smokescreen because he's not allowed to bring anyone in but that might not be the case as he has tried to bring midfielders in recently, he has said so himself.
25th February 2006 Gordon Shepherd said "....................<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: "Courier New"">We continue to try sensibly to support Andy in his efforts to strengthen the squad and it is fair to say that his dealings in the transfer market have been successful but the costs have to be carefully considered, reasonable and justifiable. Rest assured that we are ambitious and want promotion. Being in the top six at the moment is encouraging and if Andy does need that extra resource to bolster that final push for promotion then the Board will do what it can to help. However we must always keep a close watch on the bottom line and resist any temptation to overstretch ourselves as that would be financial suicide and we all want this Club to be in business for many years to come. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: "Courier New""> </p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: "Courier New"">As for you, our fans, well you can play your part too by getting behind the team at all our matches and spurring them on with your vocal support."</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: "Courier New""></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: "Courier New"">I for one have always felt that GS tells it how it is </span></p>
RE: Should we get promoted will he adopt same attitude ??? nt Yes he will. The bottom line will ALWAYS be survival as a club. GS will never, nor will Patric C allow the club to over reach in the money stakes. That is as I see it and I dont see how that means lack of ambition... As far as Richie goes in his managerial style one of the first things he does is , as he sees it, is avoid all the poor things that Managers under whom he played did to him and his team mates. If that equates to misplaced loyalty to the team he manages , well then so be it, but I recon thats what this loyalty thing is all about, he is using his own experiences and working to what he believes is the right way..........
RE: not really Yes but he hasn't really said why he was unsuccessful on all the ones he has tried to bring in has he. Was it because he can't sell BFC to them or was it because BFC can't or wont afford to pay the wages that are required.
RE: not really probably the wages have a big part to play mate. i get the feeling a tight ship is being run and quite rightly so - we did nearly go to the wall
Loyalty is a great thing Jacob Burns for example loyal up to the point when he fecks off cos its better for him.
