It's missing Charlie Sheen for me... Chris Taylor: I think now, looking back, we did not fight the enemy, we fought ourselves. The enemy was in us. The war is over for me now, but it will always be there, the rest of my days. As I'm sure Elias will be, fighting with Barnes for what Rhah called "possesion of my soul." There are times since, I've felt like a child, born of those two fathers. But be that as it may, those of us who did make it have an obligation to build again. To teach to others what we know, and to try with what's left of our lives to find a goodness and a meaning to this life. 'Course EastStander you don't like Platoon though... Philistine!
RE: It's missing Charlie Sheen for me... Don't think I've ever said I didn't like Platoon - thought it was overrated and that Hamburger Hill was the better Vietnam movie released at the same time. Heres a better version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFoym4sdNKQ&mode=related&search= I think the one posted first was going for irony "Adagio for strings without strings!" But my favourite piece of classical music is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZpzYKnv9-Y&mode=related&search=
Lets get the occasion right.............ok The CJD version would be great for when the players come out of the tunnel Espesially if it were timed right If the Eastander version was played when the players were coming out of the tunnel I would leave the ground immediatly and find a path that led me straight to the river Dearne Police report - a man has been found floating belly up in the river Dearne near Barnsley But in saying that, when the occasion calls for it, the second version is better
It's on Brassed Off that one... The Grimey Colliery Band do a great version... I'm not the biggest classical music fan but I know a piece of good music when I hear it. I've said before one of the best things about Platoon is the soundtrack - Adaggio For Strings just seems to fit so well... Speaking of classical music - you hear the one about the bloke from town who called his dog Grieg 'cos he used to Pee Agin T'Suite... Thinka 'bout it!
RE: It's on Brassed Off that one... Yep I've also got the Grimey band version and ut's cracking - played it at my mums funeral which is why the piece means so much to me
RE: Who was talking about music for the players to come out to?.....nobody It was used as an example of occasions when the music is most effective ie. not all music, no matter how good it is, is apropriate for the occasion For example, it would be inappropriate to play the first version at your mothers funeral only to find people were dancing in the pews at the church or at the crem Thats unless she asked for it of course
I can understand that mate... There's some music that simply has a way of reminding you exactly who you are and where you're from (I don't necessarily mean geographically neither) and putting everything into perspective.
what next....? going to the cinema and sitting with your back to the screen and cheering on the projectionist?!?!?!?
When I first heard what they'd done to Barber's Adagio for Strings...... .......my reaction was "NOOOOOOOOO!"</p> Couldn't see how it could work but, as it happens, I think they made a brilliant job of it.</p>
