I've had the OP on ignore for months so don't know what he's just posted, but I can imagine.
There is not and has not been a player to hold a torch to Gazza since his prime. Without doubt the most naturally gifted player from these Isles since George Best. More than that tho, a genuine honest up front character.
Troubled character but doing his all to survive, which a year ago looked beyond him.
You can shove your SKY generation wherever.

I've just watched that same show, and what I see is the same frightened little kid that I grew up watching. Absolutely f***ed up. I hope for your sake you never have to watch a friend go through what he has.

For some reason you seem to link that with the absolute genius that he was on the football pitch, and see it as a slur on his ability. I promise you (too young as you are to see), that genius is not too strong a word. You're unlikely to see that kind of player again. As much of a lovely person* as Piers Morgan is, he hits the nail on the head when he says Gazza is "the best English player of (his) lifetime."

There was a time when England could have picked Gascoigne, Waddle, Barnes, Hoddle and Le Tissier in the same team. I'll leave it for more mature posters to imagine what that could have been, compared to what we've had since...

And therefore I know the whole story. Its not just his biased side either, it has many contributions from friends, family and colleagues. But tbf to Gazza, he admits EVERYTHING. He knows he has done wrong. Does it make it any better? No. But the guy has serious issues.
ADHD, Manic Depression, OCD, Anxiety and Panic Attacks, Twitches, Addictive Personality Disorder.. he witnessed death all around him as a child, including his best mate at 10 year old who got knocked down. Which he blamed himself for. These arent excuses. But they give an insight into the mans mind.
He openly admits that he headbutted Sheryl, and she broke her finger in the fall. Thats totally inexcusable, and nobody can deny that.. I dont see anybody defending him, and a lot of us on ere LIVED during that era, and made our displeasure known then. But the man is/was ill. He self-medicates, which makes it worse. I can only imagine just how crazy his life was in the 90's. And to then be 'just another bloke' again, well I bet thats hard work to deal with. Most people DO deal with it. Look at Beckham, he has had the right people round him, BUT, he can obviously handle/deal with it better. Paul Gascoigne couldnt, and turned to drink and drugs which brought out the worst in him. He hasnt had the best people round him, and football takes some share of that blame IMO. Would the english game have been what it is without Gazza's influence? I think not. But they spat him out and left him to the vultures. He should have been given a coaching role years ago. If he had fcukd it up, then fair enough.
I view Gazza as the best England player of my lifetime, with NONE of todays over-paid nancys coming close. Rooney couldnt lace his boots in his prime.
He ruined his own career, his own marriage, his own reputation. He knows that. And he now pays the price. But WHY kick a man thats down, and trying to claw his way back up?
I duno why Ive just said all this. What did I expect to achieve?
I thought there were certain parts of the interview that were really sad to see/hear. Proper felt for the guy, but also felt rather angry. He is a frustrating character. A bit of a riddle. But he is still loveable with it, and TRYING to stay well. So good luck to him, and I hope he finds peace.
