Ritchie fared badly against the top sides but Davey hasn't played them yet. Against the poorer sides at home, Davey's done well - but would Ritchie have got the same results? It's all conjecture how many points each of them would have got but just extrapolating their current points into a season is hardly a fair way of doing it. Davey came in at a time we had 3 home games against weaker opposition but personally I found us more entertaining under Ritchie.</p>

I think everyone would agree that we were more entertaining under Ritchie.

But he would not add players to the squad and he was being too loyal. Wright and Richards up front?!! When we lost Mcindoe we were despearte for new players. We got 4 in on loan the day after he left and they have been vital since . He sent Kazim Richards back. If he had added to his squad he'd still be the manager. I think we were going down under Ritchie and the players were losing heart in his final few games! Birmingham away?, Palace away?

I'm not sure it was all that entertaining, we did have plenty of awful games under Ritchie.</p>

At least now we have a good chance of staying up and then we can reassess Davey as a manager next season.</p>

Kinght - useless
Reid - sat on bench every week
McCann - had a few bad games, a few good games and a few average ones
Wallwork - played two games

Nope, let me assure you that it was while Leon Knight was playing for Barnsley that people thought he was crap. I don't remember anyone saying "by eck, he wor good while he was with us but now he's gone back he's ****"

Kyel Reid is still here as far as i'm aware and still sat on the bench. He's the black lad that crosses the ball too far.

McCann has had stick while he has been here actually.

Wallwork wasn't the greatest player in the world you know, couldnt pass a ball.

 

First point: Ritchie signed Mannone

Therefore has to take some of the blame there.

 

That was a big mistake. Mind it would have been different

if we had got Arturo Lupoli for the season like he was trying for when he ended up with Mannone. I think a lot of work went into trying to get Lupoli and the reason he didn't sign Kazim-Richards is that he thoughtLupoli would sign.

 

Second point:

I don't care what the performance at Norwich was like, we lost 5-1, whether with ten men or not. Plenty of teams play well with ten men and win games.

We often played well under Ritchie but got nothing due to tactical naivity.

By the way, I'm not saying Davey's better, simply pointing some things out.

Knight - was not great
Wallwork played 2 games and we won them both
Reid replaced Mcindoe and has been useful
Mccann has improved all the time - Stoke A? MOM last week?

No he didnt.
Mcindoe = first team regular, always played on left wing
Kyel Reid = bench warmer. normally played up front by davey

 

Why are we still treading this ground?

Ritchie is long gone, the new manager is in place and we are in with a shot at staying up with 10 games left. I couldn't care less if Dickie Bird was running the team, if we stay up it's worth it.

There are arguments for and against both men, personally I haven't been too inspired by the methods or approach of either. But why any Barnsley fan would spend time pontificating over which man has contributed most is beyond me - the club is bigger than all of us and if we are playing Championship football again next season I will be grateful to both for making it happen.
