I was born before the strikes ive had all the stories of the hardships and ive seen the aftermath of destroyed communities blighted by 'poverty' etc. I dont and i can safely say i will never agree with what the notts/north derbyshire miners did by not supportting those who did strike. However, some of what keeps emerging post strike years is frightening to say the least. You have no doubt heard the expression about Scargill, small house big union, big house small union. union officals flashing big wads of readies off while familes starved, struggling to make two pennies rub together. I know that went on, even though I was too young cos a local ex union rep still brags about how he used the money to help with his morguage repayments. So I think to myself, how is this pulling together, united for the cause in question? I also get to see, at first hand a community split by the strike. Makes the S yorkshire/notts dislikes seem pale in comparrison.
