The start of this season will be the first time that Andy Richies influence has not been felt at the WELL

Its a new start - this season we haven't nearly a full squad to get rid of and a new squad to buy - so SD can go out and start the squad building properly

I am confident that the Davey / Cryne partnership will come up with the goods

And it dosen't matter if its Jack Lester or Lester Piggott that they bring in, because this time the management and directors have more time to pick and choose who they want in comparrison to last season when it was more of a panic buy to fill many empty places and hope that the players that they did bring in worked

    Some did - some didn't
For example, Sousa did - Ricketts didn't

I think whoever they bring in this time will be good uns (Y) (Y) (Y)

His influence will always be with us just as long as we stay in the Championship.

Like him or not he was the manager who got us out of League One.

I can see where you are coming from though.

I think we are in for some big surprises before the start of the season

I think this will be in the form of tried and tested players coming to the club i.e. in the Phillips mould, but I also think there will be players like Kazim-Richards i.e. players in the lower leagues or some reserve side somewhere that turn out to be gems

That will be the debacle of promotion to this league then

I hardly think debacle is the right word what word would you use to describe the spackman era then - I cant think of anything suitably worse

There could still be one major influence

    Brain Howard who AR signed!

Nudger I know you were not a big fan of AR but he did his job and won us promotion, now because we have sustained our league position and from an FA cup run we have the amount of funds which AR never had available!

To bad mouth a manager who won us promotion like you always do is completly disrepectful to the job he did for us, he had his faults as all managers do but you have to accept that he did what was asked of him with limited funds which utimately effect our position today!?!?!?!?

    Ritchie ...

... achieved in Cardiff while Basset and Davey failed to achieve at Wembley. All three games were played against teams from the same division. Cardiff was the one when Barnsley fans celebrated. Lets hope Davey gets another chance.

    Don't mention the S word

He was without doubt the worst manager and I totally despise him. Firm favourite of the fans who shouted for him to be brought in though.

"you have to accept that he did what was asked of him"........no he didn't !!!

He didn't do what he was asked to do !!! :D
Ask PC and Shep............thats why he got the sack
PC and Shep were asking him to strengthen the squad to keep us in the Championship and Ritchie refused to do this
PC and Shep told us this at a public meeting while Ritchie was still the manager........so FFS how clear can this be !!!

And thats why I'm saying he left us in one hell of a foooking hole.............a hole that Davey has managed to dig us out of........just
Ritchie left us second from bottom with a very very weak squad

    Hence the;
    1) panic of bringing in players to keep us up that season 06/07
    2) the getting rid of nearly a full squad of players during the close season
    3) the attempt to build a full squad in just one season 07/08 that is capable of staying in the Championship

If Ritchie was still the manager now you can bet your bottom dollar that Barnsley would be getting ready for a second season in League 1

Its a shame that Ritchie never got to see his last signing for us play isn't it

It's also unfortunate that a lot of players that the official site reported Ritchie was attempting to sign didn't come off , many due to budget (official site again). In conclusion, Ritchie is clearly to blame for everything.

You're just upset because when RITCHIE'S team were getting us promoted, you were on your way home

I was a Ritchie fan and will be ever grateful for the Play Off victory at Cardiff. The fact is Patrick Cryne came on Radio Sheffield the night A.R was sacked and said they had funds available for Ritchie to strengthen the squad but the only player he wanted to fetch in was Danny Cadamatri,he also said without strengthening the team would get relegated because the squad wasn't strong enough so the had no choice but to sack him.

    Hang on a second

When AR was given the job he was set a target of promotion which he achieved and did so a year earlier than the club had set so he did what was asked of him you cannot deny ot twist that around as it is a fact!

Like I said originally, he had his faults which led to his dismissal I am not doubting that but you always come on here and bad mouth a man who helped the club come progress, what is the need?
Was he such a bad manager? At the end of the day he has left and we have a new manager who has done brilliantly so why do you come on here and moan about AR.

Nobody knows the exact funds made available to him when we won promotion and even PC has said this year they can loosen the strings a little as GS did what he had to can ran a tight ship so I am betting AR had no where near the funds SD will get this season but that does not matter as it is all hindsight now!

I'm not against SD or PC I think/hope they can take us forward but I can also accept that AR did what was asked and won us promotion to this division simply as that a fact which is so blind on you that you felt the need to leave the playoff final early when we were always in with a shout, to me that is disrespectful to the club, fans and players and what was the reason because you did not like AR as a manager!?!?!

    RE: Typical Nudger..................a few points

Ritchie did a good job getting us promoted with the team he had got, I am not questioning this at all.
What I am saying is this - PC and Shep and a few on here could see that the team promoted didn't have a cat in hells chance of staying in this division without bringing more players in.
PC and Shep said that Ritchie would not do this even though he was continually being told to strengthen

THE CONSEQUENCE of this, and this is the point I'm making here, is that it resulted in the club going through TWO very disruptive seasons..............we have just come out of that disruptive phase caused by Ritchie..............
Davey has had a lot of flak thrown at him this season because he hasen't finished higher in the table.
But fans on here have to realise what Davey has done.
He has got rid of nearly a full squad and rebuilt nearly a full squad in only ONE season.
How many players has he brought in and just look at the nationalities of these players
    He has blended together players from;
    Brazil 2
    Nigeria 1
    Denmark 1
    Germany 2
    Peru 1
    Spain 1
    Jamiaca 1
    Holland 1
    Hungary 1

Even so, we escaped relegation and got to the semi final of the FA Cup
Davey has done this on a shoe string compared to other championship clubs
We have now got the basics there to build a proper squad
This is a fantastic achievement in anybodies book

As for leaving early in the Cardiff Final.................I suppose you could say I did.
Why? because I don't watch penalties at the WELL so I aint going to watch them to decide Barnsleys future whether we got promoted or not.
Nerves couldn't stand that..........it was absolutly nothing to do with Ritchie. Why should it be. He did a great job getting us out of that division. It was the season after when he put us in the hole thats taken two seasons to dig ourselves out of.
I can assure you I wasn't sat on the train in Cardiff with my head in my hands while the penalties were being taken thinking 'next season when we are in the Championship, Ritchie is going to be an absolute flop'.
