Many of the varieties of mushrooms that are sold in local supermarkets, have been commercially grown on mushroom farms. These mushrooms are always safe to eat as they are grown in controlled, sterilized environments. Some of the varieties that are grown commercially include: whites, crimini, portabella, shiitake, oyster and enoki.
