sorry to come out of the huge thread, but why cannot they allow a smoking area, there are plenty of open air spaces in the ground. The corner of the Ponty opposite side to the disabled stand,to name but one.I personally gave up smoking in 1993 and have not touched one since, but I can vouch that its a huge addiction. So lets not get all holier than thou about it, lets instead manage it considerately.I am sure the majority of smokers would play the game properly if such zones might be provided.Yes I also know that a lot of its to do with health and safety measures after the Bradford tragedy, but I still think areas could be looked to for the enjoyment of all.
I think they do at Barnsley - it's other clubs like wednesday that don't have the sense to do something about it.
sorry just read your bit on open air in the main thread seems we are singing the same song, It just is daft to try and stop it.In pubs, cinemas, restraunts, public transport etc its easily sorted out and stopped. But in mass venue places such as football, music events etc then itsa hard one to do.The smoking areas is the answer for me.I am sure a smoker can do without for 45 minutes.
take a look at this site, not really into politics but I must say as a smoker, I agree with most of what they say http://www.ukip.org/search?q=smoking&x=16&y=11
Why can't they do without for 105 minutes then? They know smoking is banned in the grounds. If they can't last the length of time the game goes on for then, in my opinion, they shouldn't go.
No. But I know if I was a smoker and I wanted to go somewhere that didn't allow me to smoke, I wouldn't go. What do they do if they fly or go on public transport anywhere?
RE: have you ever smoked like I said I am a reformed smoker, gave up 15 years ago, sometimes the reformed smokers are the worst for being anti fags. But Yes Mort, its a tough habit to break. Also think of it like this too, a smoker can get very irritable when denied his habit, maybe just maybe it could prevent some anger on the terraces. Just a minor point. And if there were some smoking zones out in the open then the non smokers would not be in any way required to stand in them.
I think parky is saying that all smokers should be on disability benefit or something as clearly they are unable to work.
I will tell something thats more objectional than the smokers though. Drunken buggers they come in late, they are up and down all game going for a piss, then they top up at half time , come back in late and begin the up and down lark all over.Add to this the foul vulgar language and inconsideration for women and children. I will take a smoker anytime over the drunken yob.
I don't see your point Being drunk and disorderly at a football match is against the law so its not exactly a case of smoking or being drunk is it, quite rightly both are illegal
RE: Why can't they do without for 105 minutes then? My wife is a heavy smoker and she gets anxious when she knows she can't have one for x amount of time. She was one of the courteous smokers who asked non-smokers around her if it was ok to light up and always did her best to minimise the effect on others. I bought her one of those electronic ciggies for xmas and she finds it useful when out in no smoking areas. It looks just like a normal cigarette and emits vapour. It's very amusing when people come storming over to stop her and then realise it's not a real one!
Does you standing up... ...to let someone go to the toilet have an impact on your health? Agreed it's not ideal and it pisses you off, but that's all it is. It's no way in comparison to someone smoking next to you for 90 minutes.
You seem to think that because smoking is an addiction they cant go for a couple of hours without smoking. Thats what you said when dyson commented on the amount of time it is isn't it?
