For me he's not quite good enough... simple as that. He has had some great games regards shot-stopping but his domination of the box, his catching and his kicking are all under par in my opinion. Yes, he's a good servant to the club and he deserves respect, but as I say, for me it's his all-round game which isn't quite there

But if he had all of that as well as shot-stopping he'd be playing for England tonight and not languishing in the Championship.
If every outfield player was of his caliber we'd be in the play-offs most seasons.
Point is, we're never going to attract the perfect goalkeeper or any player for that matter who has everything in their locker.

    Agree

Not true. All the goalkeepers at champ level will be good shot stoppers. It's the first thing you need. At league two level theres good shot stoppers.

My point was that if his catching, domination of the box and distribution were equally as good as his shop-stopping he'd be playing for England.
It obviously isn't which is why he's at Oakwell. Hart's the current England keeper and even he doesn't have all the attributes i.e. he doesn't dominate the box or catch well.

Fair comment but ask yourself this:

Which is most likely? Steele getting a better offer or us attracting a better keeper?

Good point... it begs the question if Steele goes does Flicker have anyone else lined up..? If he doesnt and we let Steele go nowish without a replacement then there is no guarantee we will get someone better than him and we might end up with complete kak. Then again can we get someone in at least as good as Steele on lower wages..? We have to trust in the manager to prove his management skills on this one like we will have to hope he makes good acquisitions in other areas
