    given that they aren't supposed to have them and the security is supposed to be tight to avoid some fanatic getting in with a bomb, hardly encouraging is it?

    I've often thought though, how thorough are the searches really?

    I mean, I went to see the Stone Roses on Wednesday and got patted down on my way into the Etihad. Although I didn't have anything on me, the chap patted my pockets, and I had my phone in one and my wallet in the other. But he never asked me what was in my pockets or to turn them out. My wallet is quite thick (sadly not due to wads of cash) and could easily have been drugs or anything really.

    I saw a chap selling drugs inside the stadium, a few chaps smoking weed, and there were a good 12 or so smoke bombs set off. So the security measures put in place at the Etihad at least probably aren't up to much. And whilst you'd like to think they'd be better in France with what recently went off, evidently theyre not.

    It was a lucky escape for the poor bloody steward when the one he was shifting exploded...that really could have been nasty.

    That may be so but what I was getting at is this is supposedly France on high alert given recent events and threats

    Terrorists tend to use home made devices. Something big enough to cause mass casualties would have to be at least the size of a pressure cooker. Good luck trying to hide that where the sun doesn't shine.
