I can't even start to contemplate the horror that awaits in the next 5 years. Seems the right's campaign of fear over the SNP has done the trick. Not sure what people thought the SNP were going to do to them. And to vote on the basis that the Scots might get a bit better deal? How does that really effect anyone in the grand scheme of things? It's like not wanting to share a bit of your dinner with a hungry person so you chuck the whole lot in the bin. The worst thing for me is the chance of electoral reform has gone meaning we're stuck with policy making for the marginals. The political equivalent of the way our football club is run. Sack the manager based on a vocal minority who threaten to stop going if you don't, whilst ignoring the best interests of everyone else who keeps turning up. I'm sure the new leader will be New Labour.
I agree but it's this that's tipped the balance to a Tory majority. Divide and rule. Set English against Scots, those on lower incomes against those on benefits, private sector against public sector, immigrants, the disabled. Classic Tory policy so everyone ends up only caring about themselves. Cameron says he wants to bring Britain together, well he's just spent the last 5 years promoting total division in our society.
Labour need to reform and resurge! It's a dark day for the meek, the weak and the poor but it was the wrong Milliband with the wrong shadow ministers; they need to appeal to a wider audience as politics has moved on. I am so gutted but we need to fight for the future.
i personally dont think those on lower incomes or benefits have had any influence on the election after all i cant see many of those voting tory, they'd vote labour if anything. labour need a long look at themselves to find out why their vote has fallen so much, all the labour activists i know are blaming the ukip vote,so why?? well,i reckon immigration and a eu referendum, immigration has been simmering away for years and labour are a party thats percieved to be pro immigration and if anyone dare speak out they brand them racist, this is now wearing thin and voters are switching to ukip who arnt afraid to speak on the matter. Then we have labours refusal to grant a eu referendum, big mistake in my opinion, ukip have been growing on the back of this, labour refuse and many voters jump ship to either ukip or tory,at least cameron had the gumption to tackle the ukip threat with counter policies.
I think that will be the analysis that comes out of the Labour party and it'll be right on one level but IMHO ultimately it would be wrong. I agree that they may have won under David Miliband but I don't think he would have done anything to make it a fairer society. Even under 'Red' Ed (nonsense) they were still a party of austerity. The SNP on the other hand had an anti-austerity stance and had a stunning election. I was really excited by a progressive left coalition with the other parties tempering Labour's Blairite tendencies, and electoral reform where people can actually vote for what they believe in.
Why on earth would a traditional labour supporter vote ukip. When rhe ukip policies are more lines up with what people consider are the rory policies are than the Tory parties actually are
But they can't pursue policies they don't agree with. They shouldn't be chasing UKIP but making the case for what they believe and trying to convince people. That's what politics is about.
Because UKIP have dressed themselves up as the party for the working man. In reality they are anything but.
