What happens if something (god forbid) happened to our terminally ill owner?

How long do you think the club could last if we spent all the currently accumulated transfer money and there was no investment coming in?

It's a well known fact that we are losing £1million a year without transfer fees.

I get what you're saying, but I wish people would stop referring to our owner in such terms in this forum.

Patrick reads the BBS, and I'm sure he doesn't need constant reminders.

It's not a known fact. There was very little factual evidence presented.

If it is true, the question I would be asking is how did we manage to lose £1m in a League which restricts our spending to 70% of turnover.

    I've never suggested splashing out.
But it would be better if we had a few directors who could put a bit more money in to compete a little bit better than what we are now.

In saying that - current ownership has improved massively over this last 18 months or so.
We are not giving players away these days.
Although IMO problems still surround inflexible players contracts.

I do think they are in a position now to try and secure young exciting strikers valued around the £1 million mark.
And as an investment for the club I would be trying to bring 2 or 3 of these in.
Which they might be trying to do.

Wasn't the million quid per season based on life in league 1 on previous season ticket sales and sponsorships. I reckon that has been equalised now and we operate about break even. we'll see from the accounts obviously.... In agreement about living within our means though.

Especially considering that million quid deficit didn't take into account the solidarity payments.. We actually probably do better than break even now with our well managed wage structure.

Possibly best never to sign another player ever again. When we run out we can just ask people in the crowd to play. Tarns Got Talent

Well if we keep to our current spend of 3 quid a week... then we should be good until the year 2517..

With two arms and two legs as add ons to his body, probably about a million.

I don't think - but show me where I'm wrong - that anyone wants 'millions' spending on one player, or the entire budget blown this summer.

There's frustration at a lack of attacking options having been brought in so far, and that can manifest in many ways, but please don't fall into the trap of thinking that the only alternative to exceptional frugality is financial oblivion.

The issue I have is for example Marc Roberts - we had a Championship proven player, and rather than keep him (and pay him an improved contract) we decided to cash in. Fine when it works and we retain our Championship status - what if it doesn't and we ship a bagful and are bouncing around the bottom 3 all season ? Admittedly that won't be solely to losing Roberts - shipping out all our creativity is a factor - but consistently cashing in on players that Hecky etc have developed - what message does that send out ?

I'm saying we'd have been daft to pay £1 million for him. Especially when we are a day off bankruptcy

I'd rather ask Burton how they managed to turn a small profit on gates of about 3,700 or whatever it was.

I remember at the time you was saying hope we haven't paid 1million for a non league player...... yeah no one good ever came from non league jamie vardy, lee tomlin,Andre gray,Charlie Austin,George williams, marc roberts, angus mcdonald, dwight gayle, chris smalling and that's just off top of my head. I don't know if he is worth 1million or the reported 500k that we have paid but I'll keep an open mind until I see him kick a ball.

You haven't seen him play but you think he might be good because Jamie Vardy is. There's probably upwards of 600 players playing in the Conference. There's a reason why at least 500+ of them are not playing in the Championship. Doesn't mean Pinnock is no good but with our spending restrictions I would be surprised and slightly disappointed if we have spent close to £1m on him. I actually heard the fee was £400k. No idea what the add ons are.

At which point did I say he was good because vardy is? My point was they are some good un noticed players in the non league 98% will never play in the football league because they aren't good enough. We have found some good players from lower leagues over the past few seasons and I trust the clubs scouting team. But don't let me stop you from writing players off before they kick a ball.

Behave. I haven't written him off. I am just saying with our restrictions I hope we haven't spent £1m on him.

You said no one good has ever come from the Conference and then trotted a list of players who have. Doesn't mean Pinnock will be good enough. Just because Tuton and Jackson are not good enough does not mean he won't be. Let's hope he is in the 2% who are.

I doubt we would have paid £1m for any of the players you have listed above.
