in defence????!!!! Perkins and McEverly mainly to blame for it today. Tapping it around at the back when we are under pressure instead of getting it cleared. Didn't work and we got punished for it..............
Re: Thought our tactics were off today and what's with the stupid short passing deep. we've been playing this "stupid short passing deep all season" and will for the rest of our time under Keith Hill. Keep the Faith.
Re: Thought our tactics were off today and what's with the stupid short passing deep. I'll always keep the faith. Don't think the short passing does us any favours though
You've got to be able to adapt mate Usually our defence isn't pressured in their own half when they have the ball. Today they were and they failed to cope. We caused ourselves no end of problems and the tactics should have changed. We're nowhere near good enough to do it when the opposition press us.
Re: You've got to be able to adapt mate Especially when you're playing premiership teams, get the ball out, play it long.............save the short passing for midfield not around our 18 yard box!
Re: You've got to be able to adapt mate Can't agree with that Jay. The tactics weren't the problem, we just failed to retain the ball today. Perkins isn't good enough in a four and Drinkwater should have been in the middle, and Butterfield is a huge loss. Surely Swansea showed today what a long term commitment to short passing will bring. I would have been devastated if we'd have resorted to a direct style of play.
Re: You've got to be able to adapt mate Agree with most of that, especially the long term commitment to short passing. Perkins is good enough in a four and we won't play Swansea every week, imho. I'd rather we lose a few soft goals by over playing than resort to hoof ball. It shows bravery to keep trying to play football. By the way, I've seen much worse than McNulty, why does he cop for so much stck?
Can't understand that at all I'd rather we win. For the most part that involves playing passing football. But sometimes it means getting rid of it.
Re: Can't understand that at all I hear what you're saying, but I stand by what I said. Give players the confidence to play anywhere.
Norman hunter, world cup qualifier against Poland, should have put the ball in row z Tried playing football instead and cost us the chance of going to the 74 finals.
Re: Can't understand that at all When a team makes a good move against us and scores a goal it's disappointing, but it's going to happen about 50 times every year so you just accept it. When we have the ball but give it away in our own half and the opposition score it hurts ten times as much. We've been used to quite a lot of space in the Championship this season, so the passing it from the back model has worked quite well. Today Swansea were pressing us on the edge of our 18 yard box and we couldn't cope with it. We must have lost the ball over a dozen times in our own half. Continuing to play a certain way when it obviously isn't working doesn't particularly strike me as entertaining football and it's bugger all use in winning the game. I'm all for passing football, but I don't want our team to go out and just commit suicide. We needed to mix it up a bit today. I'm not saying we would have won, Swansea are better than us, but I would have far rather we didn't gift them the game.
Re: Norman hunter, world cup qualifier against Poland, should have put the ball in ro Aye but just imagine the heartache he saved... None of that trudging to sports Direct to buy a flag for your house and one for your car. And none of that buying in 24 cans each from Asda for the match, and let's have a BBQ afterwards.... no six weeks of hype followed by one week of disappointment. Norman hunter... Football saviour.
Re: Norman hunter, world cup qualifier against Poland, should have put the ball in ro Did they have asda and sports direct in 1974? more like suggs & presto
Re: Norman hunter, world cup qualifier against Poland, should have put the ball in ro Midwood sports. They sold loads of car flags, back in the day.
On the same subject..... .....I can't understand why we continued to tap it around in our own half with five minutes left at West Ham. Hill said after that game that he will never resort to whacking it long, but there is a time and a place for everything. West Ham killed the game in the second half, and we created pretty much zilch. A couple of high balls into their box would have at least given them something to think about. We had nothing to lose and were only 1-0 down. As it was, the second half for them was one of the most comfortable 1-0's I've seen in a very long time.
