First half at times the football was excellent and i was really enthused. The final ball was missing but we don't have JCR yet and that may improve. I thought both Macken and Hume were poor today to be fair. They'll take time to gel but its obvious Hume has been playing in a long ball team as he is constantly looking to chase a punt over the top which isn't our style. Coventry are a really well organised team and are solid and hit well on the break.

The defence is a worry in terms of pace. You can't get away with slow centre halves if you have slow full backs which we had today. Moore is slow but don't think he had that bad a game and if we had a lightening defender along side him his experience would be excellent. However, in our current back four he's going to be too slow.

Second half was very flat and disappointing. Hume should be fined for getting sent off, ridiculous and deserved. Davey can't be blamed for not subbing him. If our most expensive player can't control himself without having to be subbed then its a poor show.

Thought Leon was excellent and I though Howard worked well and put himself about and don't understand why he has become a hate figure. Great goal too.

Dissapointing result and second half but we deserved something today and it has given me enough hope for the coming season, especially with key players to come back

We're going to get butchered on a regular basis if we don't get some pace and composure into the defence.

Neither QPR nor Coventry have been anything special. You could argue that we were unlucky to lose both games - I accept that we might easily have four points on the board already.

For all that, we are asking for trouble with four tortoises at the back.

We played some really pretty football today - as we did at QPR. That'll quickly fall by the wayside, though, as confidence drains away. Then we'll really be in trouble, and Davey will be counting the days.

I do agree about pace at the back but i think we also have to consider the quality of players they had upfront and on the wings today and don't think we were that bad at the back. There first goal was a fluke and the second hassell made a big big mistake.

I think the confidence issue is a factor though and the crowd really isn't helping. You could just sense the tension and nervousness and willingness to get on people's backs

I think the performance at the back in the second half was the worst I've seen in a long time.

Thought we got worse after they scored and we were pushing on, but thats the problem with no pace, we're always going to be succeptable to being exposed

I think the point about Hume "controlling himself" is a good one.

However, it is the managers job to spot the fact that he DID lose it for quite an extended period of time. It looked like an accident waiting to happen.

SD took the liberty of naming THREE strikers amongst his substitutes (including a leaner and fitter looking Mostto) - but presumably he hadn't planned on using any of then except in an emergency....

To be fair he probably didn't dare but KO or Mossto on because of the abuse they get!

Yeah, kind of agree with Hime but still think Hume should be the one getting the stick

I should like to see Mossto play with Macken..

if anyone could put Miguel in a scoring position Macken could.

    Absolutely

I got the impression (maybe wrongly) that the crowd were looking forward to seeing Mostto in action today.

People around me certainly seemed enthusiastic about Mostto.

The feeling was that Macken looked overweight and unfit - so a leaner, meaner Mostto was a decent alternative.

The defence was slow and statuesque throughout. As Ron Atkinson would say, the whole game was littered with 'after you claude' moments at the back. Just before we equalised I predicted we would lose by three. Couldn't see us producing a good enough chance to score and always likely to self destruct at the back. Don't think the goalie inspres much confidence either. Good shot stopper he may be, but he isn't confident with crosses, his handling is far from clean and his distribution is awful.

The way we played first half would certainly suit the way Mostto seems to want to play. the guy wants it into his feet around the 18 yard area and I think Leon, Howard and Anderson may provide those balls. I thought Howard and Leon worked well together however thought second half we missed someone in there to win it for them. Mention for Howard- last year I thought he often held onto the ball too long before passing but yesterday passed earlier when breaking forward from midfield. Not sure we need 2 wingers when there's a lack of height in the box so perhaps Leon/ Anderson or Colace/Howard in midfield with JCR one of three up front with license to roam may be an interesting option. Need to play Foster in centre as agree Moore and Souza will get murdered for pace.
