but we clearly haven't and that second half performance is looking increasingly like a fluke. I thought we were ******* awful tonight and looked every bit a relegation side. I'd like someone to explain to me what Diego Leon is for because I just don't get it. He looks nowhere near a championship standard player to me. Accompanied with the the fact that Anderson De Silva had an absolute nightmare and we had nothing in midfield. We need a lot better than that Anderson lad. Iain Hume has scored 3 top quality goals for us, but apart from that he's done little else. He needs to get into the game far more if he's going to justify his £1.2 million price tag. At the moment Rigters looks to be able to offer exactly what our other strikers are capable of: nothing. And then we get to the defence. We finally got the back 4 that everyone has being crying out for and to be honest they looked a bit of a shambles. Bobby Hassell got in some good challenges early on before fading and Souza played well individually, but collectively we were all over the place. I thought the pride and spirit we showed against Donny would be there again tonight, but it was most certainly absent and for me that just isn't good enough.
the pride and spirit we showed for half a hour when donny gave up you mean not for the entire 90 because for the majority of the match we were second best
I agree with everything except the criticism of Hume - he was probably the only one who looked like he cared out there. He has a couple of tastey runs and was the only up front who even showed a glimmer of anything. You're spot on about Rigters though - he was away with the fairies all day, another empty shirt.
I also disagree about Hume - if the service ain't there then there is only so much you can do and I thought he gave everything he could. The thing about the Donny result is that it is going to look more and more like it wasn't a corner turned, it was just a sad single flicker of light that we only got because Donny are destined to be the worst team in the division - they are completely out of their depth. Thinking about it, I feel slightly better already, because if Forest also appear to be out of their depth then there's only one other place to avoid.
Yep - harsh on Hume. Rooney wouldnt be scoring goals in our team at the moment. He ran his blood to water, got kicked up and down the pitch but never stopped, and when he did get the ball at his feet, he skipped past challenges but found literally nobody to pass to. Needs a strike partner & some on the floor service asap.
same here He appears to be a bit of a cry baby as well, thought he was going to get himself needlessly booked when HE fouled their player leading to him going over the advertising board. Just like when he got himself sent off the other week
RE: Maybe I'm being harsh on Hume Well on what I've seen of him he's had two good chances this season, and has scored 3 goals. Good chance scored at QPR, missed at Southampton & 2 goals that werent even chances. Million pound players create goals from nothing every so often and hes done it twice already - good job too because hes gonna have **** all created for him while we're hoofing it above his head.
RE: Maybe I'm being harsh on Hume Hume - you're top scorer in a **** team, but apart from being top scorer, you've been *****! Ricky Hatton, you knocked that kid out in 2 minutes but for those 2 minutes you were *****
He needs to be making better runs though And then he'll have more chances. We actually got to the byline once in the Palace match and put over an excellent cross but Hume was just in the middle of the area doing nowt. If he'd made the run of a good striker he may well have scored. Sometimes it's the delivery that isn't good enough, but at other times it's the strikers not making the right moves. I think Hume is guilty of that.
I remember two instances you could be referring to - one where Devaney squared it in the first half and he held his hand up straight away for not being there and pointed towards his foot as if to suggest he had a knock (could be wrong) or one in the second half where Leon, Rigters and Devaney all made exactly the same run, so Hume held back, and Anderson skied a hopeless shot over. I just think that criticism of Hume is a little misplaced. I've seen Supertyke criticise him for being angry at being thrown over an advertising board by a blatant obstruction. I'd be angry about it too. The players get criticised for caring, and he seems to be being criticised for caring too much and actually chasing lost causes and wanting to win the game. If you're upfront with a non-entity and you're having 70 yard balls pinged above your head for most of the game, its got to be difficult to keep making the run when you know that theres a damn good chance that they won't bother passing it to you anyway.
he was thrown over the advertising board? HIS hands were round the opponents neck and it was that momentum that caused him to go over.
So you don't think obstructing the striker from keeping the ball in play by standing 2 yards away from the ball with no intent to play it is a foul? Its the most ridiculous, stupid, double-standard in football. Anywhere else on the pitch and obstruction like that is a foul. Why should Hume be penalised for trying to keep the ball in play - and why should he be criticised for playing like he cares when other players are being slaughtered for playing like they don't care? How can he win?
I agree with you there 100%, I just can't understand why its allowed. And all refs allow it - there must be some directive on it to get that consistency.
Oh no dont get me wrong, ive always thought that was a foul but for some reason that I dont understand it just isn't one when its in that position (like i said, no idea why) but Hume knows this because its his job, he knows he isnt going to get a foul out of it so why complain so much? It's pointless and could get him needlessly booked for dissent (to be honest he maybe should have been). The other part of my comment was that their player standing in front of him didnt cause him to go over the board, it was him trying to swing off his neck that caused that.
You're not alone.
There's a handful of others who believe the miraculous metamorphosis is still possible.

RE: You're not alone. Do you mean "miraculous metamorphosis" while Davey is in charge, or do you think that we're already doomed (even if we sacked Davey tomorrow) and will play in League One next season? If by "miraculous metamorphosis" you mean survival, then I too believe that it's still possible. (Even if Davey stays in charge)
The term applies to SD.
I think this squad could stay up with a different manager but Simon Davey would take Man Utd down. Just my opinion like.
