I asked him about the fact that we've scored one goal in five games, and failed to score in the last six away games...

The response was that he was not at all concerned. Personally, I think it's very concerning, I don't know about anyone else.

Can anyone else understand why Christensen doesn't get a look in? Keeps scoring for the reserves, got a good equaliser at the Valley - in fact our last away goal(!), and Mostto, Odejayi and Macken never look like scoring to me. Macken's all-round play is excellent but he's got no pace and as a striker, he needs to start scoring.

All I can say is thank goodness that the defence is doing well.

I think mate if you ask a stupid bleeding question like that Simon is within his right to give you a sarcastic, tongue in cheek reply. Course he is concerned. I suggest you put a bit more thought into your questioning. Surely instead of a 'closed' question (which can only be answered 'yes' or 'no') you could have asked an 'open' one such as 'What will you be doing to rectify the goal scoring problem'? I'm sure the answer would have been more constructive.

I did ask an open question

I don't ask closed questions, if you've ever heard one of my interviews you'd know that. I know how to interview.

I suggest you listen to me interviewing someone before criticising.

In response to the exact question you put there, he said 'we'll keep working hard in training'.

Oh, and just to put you right, he answered the same to a number of other journalists who questioned his answer to my point. He genuinely seems unconcerned, that's the point.

    RE: appearence money???

I don't know, but it would seem strange to sign a player who we can't afford to play because his appearance fee's too high!

RE: I did ask an open question

I think you and sarcasm are total strangers.

If your interview was the one that was on Radio Sheff then I believe the question was closed and was 'Are you concerned'? . You must have asked him a closed question as otherwise how could he answer 'No, Im not concerned' - which is effectively a closed reply.

Seems to me the answer you wanted to hear was 'Yes I'm concernd and Im going out to buy a new striker'. Better questioning would have got that out of him. In fact, why didn't you ask the question ' Are we in the market for a new striker'?

You reporters are all the same. You collar a Manager straight after a high profile game which he has just lost and always expect a constructive reply. Give Davey a break. Didn't it dawn on you he was peed off and maybe his answer was one of irony? Why the hell wouldn't he be concered?

    To answer your points

I didn't personally interview Simon, it was a press conference - so the 'collaring' of a manager after a game you speak of is rubbish. There is a press conference after every single game, it's not a case of 'collaring' a manager. Answering questions in a non-sarcastic way and giving a pres conference is part of a manager's job. Hence I've no reason to suspect Simon wasn't giving a straight answer.

I did not ask a closed question, I put a few points to him in one question, including what's being done to try and end the scoring drought. He replied that he wasn't concerned and that they will continue to work hard in training to rectify it.

If you heard the whole press conference on Radio Sheffield, one of the first questions that Pele asked was whether he was looking to sign a striker in January, but he said he wouldn't be discussing his plans for the transfer window. Hence asking that again would be pointless. so 'better questioning' would not have got anything extra from him.

In response to: "Didn't it dawn on you he was peed off and maybe his answer was one of irony? Why the hell wouldn't he be concered?"

Being 'peed off' doesn't mean a manager should give sarcastic answers to questions - hence again I have no reason to believe Simon was being ironic. Why wouldn't he be concerned? I don't know, maybe he thinks that with the defence being tight and the belief he must have in his strikers, that it won't be long till it turns around. But he did not elaborate on the answer.

This is like someone analysing a game when they haven't been.

Out of interest (and to defuse this squabble)...

On a different topic... have you ever (knowingly) been the victim of one of those setups that players sometimes perform with the media where they try to score points? You know like the England team did in one of the tournaments (can't remember which - World Cup 98?) where they tried to get as many song titles into their answers.

Sorry for the closed question... feel free to elaborate if in the affirmative!

There's only one person interested in 'squabbling' mate

I was simply posting some of Simon's comments as I can't see any on the Official Site, and raising a bit of concern that he doesn't seem worried by the lack of goals.

To answer your question mate, I don't think so!

I remember an Oakwell AM broadcast once when we played Blackpool and the lads got a whole list of Blackpool things into the commentary - tower, rock, 'big un' etc, that was quite funny.

to be fair to disco, journo you have actually changed what you said you asked there mate

i dont wanna get involved in this squabble but...you first said...

"I asked him about the fact that we've scored one goal in five games, and failed to score in the last six away games...

The response was that he was not at all concerned. Personally, I think it's very concerning, I don't know about anyone else."

then you go on to say...

"I put a few points to him in one question, including what's being done to try and end the scoring drought. He replied that he wasn't concerned and that they will continue to work hard in training to rectify it"

this makes it look like the first post was trying to make out that SD isnt concerned about our goal scoring,

personally...im not concerned either...we are 11th in the table...about 10places better than where i thought we were and i have full confidence in SD that a - he will get our strikers banging in the goals especially when mostto finds his confidence or b - he will unearth another oustanding signing

just thought id add my opinion

From what we've seen of SD so far..

I'd venture that in public he his backing his strikers but in private is trying to get new blood in

    Exactly

He'd be a nutter not to publicly support his own strikers. What would that do to their morale? Sink it to new lows. No, that's the job of our supporters!
