Well i know it dosn't mean a great deal - it WAS only a friendly after all, but there isnt a single Englishmen who dosn't hate losing to the Germans. Fair play, it was a eagerly competed match and Germany scored a fantastic goal to win it, but the opening 20 minutes in which we bossed the game and the amount of chances we had overall should have resulted in a much better result. Richards did excellent for the first goal, a determined run forward, beat his men and passed to Lampard who hammered a fantastic shot past Lehman. I thought it was going to be comfortable, but once again the attacking minds reverted to the defensive and we suddenly started going back towards our own goal? The first German goal was a calamity, as a goalkeeper myself i can't understand why Robinson didnt push the ball wide or over, instead opting to push it straight back into the middle of goal. Second, he should have held the initial shot from Hitzlsperger, that was routine, this was worse than his actual blunder imo. Third, the ball was going wide anyway, there was no one near it, if he'd have left it (which was a risk) it would have gone sailing out for a throw in. Fourth, his starting position was good - he was in prime position to come and claim the cross, Schneider didnt make good contact with it and the ball started arrowing towards the goal instead of swinging across towards the penalty spot - this wouldnt happen a lot, if he had been on his line (ala Colgan) he wouldnt have got anywhere near it if it had been crossed properly. Debatable moment, but it was a goal so hey lets forget it. The second goal, class - nuff said. The 2nd half was mind numbing, not enough attacking, Wright-Phillips looked good when he came on, Dyer should have scored, Lampard should have scored, overall it wasnt good enough against a distinctly average German outfit. We always seem to "boss the game" under McClaren. For about the first 16 minutes. And then it goes tits up. The players vastly overate themselves imho which is central to our problems.
Your not wrong there mate, overrated and overpaid. In my opinion it should either be: A) You win, you get paid B) You don't get paid at all, this is England, millions of people all over the country would give their right arm to play for the country. Earn the right to play in that shirt. Lampard is stealing a £100,000+ at Chelsea, he's a good player - but he's not world class, anyone who warrants earning that much a week should either play like Maradona and Pele combined or have invented the cure for cancer, scandalous. England won't be a force in world football for many years. We've had our chance over the last 8 years or so and failed. Now we lack the quality up front, midfield is made up 'star' names rather than performance and no comfortbale No 1 in goal. Only decent thing is the defence. The manager was probably third choice at most, and is a joke.
why is it that the first goal gets put under a microscope and examined because it was a goalkeeping error (lets not forget that the striker was unmarked) while the second goal is just considered 'class' and the fact that terry pretty much passed them the ball is ignored?
