Firstly, I'm still wondering how we've managed to come away with nothing. Yes, still wondering. The first half was fairly even stevens, both sides had a few half chances but nothing to write home about. We looked more than comfortable at the back and looked pretty decent going forward. The second half kicked off and Wednesday came out the quicker team, they looked a little bit sharper - BUT still, we always looked comfortable - they didn't cause us any problems whatsoever and we defended with ease. Then came the dreaded...uh oh...set piece outside the box. Whipped in, free header - 1-0. From then on, it was one way traffic. Seriously, we absolutely BOMBARDED them. Everything, including the kitchen sink went at the Wednesday goal but no matter how hard we tried, the ball just wouldn't go in. The last 15 minutes was relentless, I don't think Wednesday got into our half. They resorted to just walloping it clear. Christensen came on and looked good, won some headers and got the ball wide quickly. The defence was good - save the goal. Howard was anonymous for 70 minute, then finally came aliver. Da Silva was top drawer, always looking to get the ball and always looking comfortable. Devaney flattered to decieve, as did Campbell-Ryce save a few moments of magic. Macken, again played well - just needs to be a bit more greedy in front of goal. Overall, I'm disappointed we haven't at least got a draw, we deserved one. Wednesday were a very poor outfit, Johnson defended well for them but other than that they were very very poor. Come on Barnsley, more of the same from the Watford game please - lets start finishing teams off. UP THE REDS!
I'm not normally one to slag another's point of view but.....We're you even at the game tonight?? I agree the first half was very even but for the first 30mins of the second half we could and probably should have been 3 or 4 nil up. I agree last 10 mins or so you threw the kitchen sink at us but I believe that final 10 mins has clouded your judgement of the entire game.
Yes, I was at the game. You HAD chances, but you didn't dominate proceedings. You missed 2 open nets, fair enough - you should have been 3-0 up. But you weren't. You MISSED. We dominated, passed you off the park and should have come away with something. As soon as you scored, we woke up and decided it was time to start playing. Still, couldn't get the break through and you held on stoutly for the win. A decent defensive performance from yourselves the last 20 minutes too. Overall it was a pretty poor game. Neither side looked capable of winning and I believe a draw would have been fair. However... We are incapable of defending set pieces, that needs sorting. Badly.
