    1. 442 doesn't work for us
    2. Why did we only take 14 players? No opportunity to change it at all
    3. My first visit to the NYS - it's a proper toytown stadium, I'd be gutted if we went down that route at any time
    4. Rotherham is a much more drab place than Barnsley (just)
    5. The beer was good, and I'm quite drunk

Beer was good , thought we lacked a decent winger with pace today , and in 1st half we lacked a bit of creativity. 2nd half we looked decent going forward, and mellis got on ball more to give us that creativity

Did we stick rigidly to a 442 or was it fluid like last season?

Yes although mellis seemed to have more of a free role and wasn't sticking to the right hand side, not in the first half anyway, he stuck to it more in the second. The first half didn't really work for us at all with Mellis doing very little due to this free role.

Crainie was right back , good defender but didn't offer much going forward .

Wouldn't surprise me if Kennedy/Golbourne play together down the left next week. Fairly defensive, but Callum Mcmanaman could be a key player for Wigan down the right.

Thinking about it, it would surprise me.

Agreed. And Kennedy was found wanting a few times at the other side as well. His marking was poor and I don't think he won anything in the air at all did he?

Kennedy seems to play better as part of a back 5 rather than as a conventional left back

Agree. I don't think 442 works for us. Look alot better as a team 352 but we can't stick to that formation every week.

We took 14 players so that nearly all of our first team players could get 90 minutes before the season starts, whether at Frickley or at Rotherham.

Made perfect sense to me as it's a pre-season friendly that has no bearing on anything other than fitness.

The best new player in the Prem for me last year. Will be a major threat against us next week, that's for sure (assuming he plays, of course).
