Harsh red for M'Voto. Definite foul and free kick but only worth a yellow. Rather than bring on McNulty, we opted for a back 4 of Golbourne, Kennedy, Wiseman and O'Brien. They were targeting O'Brien's flank with deep balls from the outset and he was out of his depth there. Steele had possibly his worst game for us. Stationery for the 2nd goal, caught in no mans land for the easiest lob for the 3rd, and pushed the ball into his own net for the 5th. The following deserve credit - Perkins, Dagnall, Dawson, Etuhu, Pederson and Cywka. All deserved better today. Our 2nd goal was fantastic - lovely vision and touch from Pederson and clinical finish from Cywka. Both deserve places in the starting 11. Decent following from the Reds fans and great support in the 2nd half in particular. Donny travelling fans are probably more pissed off than we are today. I'm done, and still another 25 mins to kill! You Reds
A bit of perspective, four games in and certainly not the time to give up on them. A week of training for the two new lads to fit in and Huddersfield on Saturday. 38 years of support don't end because we got beat by Blackburn.
Cheers for that. But one point - Cywka is usually average when he starts. Better as an impact sub in my opinion. Would you have taken Mellis off today when Flitcroft did?
Never ever a red card m'voto very unlucky and we need to appeal this, had we kept 11 men on the pitch we would have won the game Rhodes knew exactly what he was doing playing for the foul. Perkins should have started as he is our best midfielder and pedersen looked quality when he came on, but Steele?! Captain?! Really?? he does not command his box for the second goal then for the 3rd gives Rhodes the easiest lob ever then let's one straight through his hands, bad game today steeley, this is not a moan but what do they work on with keepers during the week, steeles main two weaknesses are kicking and commanding his box?! A lot of work needed on both these aspects of his game, on the whole was a good following and we deserved more effort from certain players.
Personally I'd have kept Mellis on for longer as we were only one down at the time and we needed his creative spark to get anything. I'd have probably sacrificed Dagnall instead. I think O'Grady went off primarily as he'd been booked and that ref was capable of anything. Pederson provided that spark of creativity again and maybe giving him a runout in a 'no lose' situation was a good idea. The thing I don't understand is why he didn't bring McNulty on for O'Brien and move Wiseman to right back. That back 4 was always likely to capitulate, even without Steele having a nightmare behind them.
Cheers. That was Bobby's opinion, too - that McNulty ought to have come on if we were sacrificing a player. Wiseman sounded decent, but Kennedy the opposite. That true?
I think that's a bit harsh. None of the back 4 deserved any particular credit above the others today. Fair enough, it was a thankless task today, but they didn't do themselves credit.
Kennedy not at fault for any of the goals but as a unit our defence wasn't great. They saw JOB as the weak link and everything went down his flank. Three of the five goals today were Steele mistakes.
