... dragging themselves from the bottom of the pile to a promising position above the drop zone, all down the pan in one afternoon? Hopefully not. I'm not naive enough to believe a loss was unthinkable - but the manner in which it was delivered and the knock on effect for the rest of the season, beggars belief. I've no idea what caused such a monumental collapse, or whether it can now be repaired and made good enough to get back into contention, given the slim resources the team has now been left to work with. What rankles most is the realisation that, at New Year, when Flicker took over, many of us, including myself thought it was all over anyway. Gradually we began to believe that it might not be, and eventually had no chance of becoming reality. Now we could be on the brink of having that snatched away from us again. Tuesday night is surely make or break and it’ll be the fourth game in ten days. The lads have seldom needed the fans as much as they need us now. Let’s put this one lousy day behind us and give them the biggest hand-up possible on Tuesday – they are going to need it.
2 weeks ago we were 2nd bottom after losing to our bitterest rivals. The fixture list looked bleak but we brushed our selves down and bounced back.We can do it again starting on Tuesday.
can't disagree with much of that. for the first time, with the results as they've gone today, i do think tuesday is a must-win game now. we can still do it
It's pretty obvious what caused it - a team that is completely dead on its feet. Flitcroft has played a high octane, pressing for 90 minutes style of football that has been extremely successful but today the lack of depth in the squad took its toll. With so many injuries he had to keep Foster and Hassell in and they didn't cope and other players looked jaded. Defending for long periods at Palace and Cardiff would have been really energy sapping too. If Flicker keeps us up now it will be a miracle with 2 more out for three games and others picking up injuries, but that should not count against what has been a superhuman effort. You never know they might just have enough left for one last push...
And that's why I think he'll regret not bringing any loanees in recently. I hope it doesn't bite us on the bum.
Read the whole post...I mentioned those specific games later. I was at Palace, but I take it you weren't.
Yes we can, but its more than just fingers crossed now isnt it. And the fact that Peterbrough keep winning games when I think they are just about finished, they are so annoying.
