Rubbish, we didn't sack him And there were thousands of us that were absolutely gutted by the decision and are still totally perplexed as to why it happened. Fans don't sack managers. If that was true then Hart would have gone after the Donny home match. Gudjon never had the fans on his back at games.
They were a bit Wayne, I agree but it's not surprising after we lost 6-1. There were certainly plenty of fans starting to question his tactics, but there definitely wasn't an overwhelming desire to get shut of him. If there was, I didn't notice it. The reason we got rid of Gudjon was that Ridsdale wanted his own man. Or to be more precise he wanted Hart. I don't think the fans' opinion of Gudjon had anything to do with it. In my personal opinion, and I've said it ever since it happened, sacking Gudjon was the most bizarre decision that has taken place at Barnsley in the 25+ years that I have been following the reds.
RE: They were a bit Wayne, I agree Wasn't it Bank Holiday Monday when we won away at Blackpool, under Gudjon, to go top of the league?
RE: They were a bit Wayne, I agree Yes, there were mutterings, but if I remember on THIS BBS, we were right behind Gudjon. I can't remember many of us wanting him sacked.
Short-term memory loss, Jay??? The fans were certainly on Gudjon's back for the 3 or 4 games before he finally went - at Wrexham, home to Wycombe, against Grimsby (as Wayne has already mentioned) and at home to Peterborough. I'm not saying we got him sacked - but as ever with Barnsley fans, we didn't help the situation!! I strongly suspect that if things don't improve rapidly in the next two to three weeks, they'll be on Ritchie's back as well.
Indeed, me too but that was then, this is now
We need to get behind Ritchie, I'm sure he'll get our away record better!

The sacking of Gudjon was engineered from Day One of Ridsdale's takeover. Only allowing players to sign short term deals, forcing him to "sack" Illic. No Scouts, Assistant Manager sacked (cost cutting) poor players only ones being able to sign, apart from a few signings thanks a bunch ridsdale and well done Mr Shepherd and Mr Taylor for not watching more closely
There was a lot of frustration at the way the season had petered out but should Gudjon have gone? No, I don't think so.
RE: The sacking of Gudjon was engineered from Day One of Ridsdale's I really felt sorry for Gujon. One hand tied behind his back in Doyles regime, and both hands tied behind his back in Ridsdales regime. Good luck to him at NCFC.
I don't doubt there were grunmblings with the way results were going But chants of 'Gudjon out' I never heard. That's not a loss of memory, I simply didn't hear them.
Gudjon... Not saying I wanted him sacked, or that we're in a better position now BUT... His tactics in the few games up to him being sacked were absolutely appalling. Playing two centre halves (Monk and Crooks) in centre midfield at Notts County, a side who were struggling against relegation was absolutely ridiculous. We were absolutely dreadful until he brought on a couple of attacking subs, when amazingly we suddenly started dominating the game, got an equaliser and should have won. Then we couldn't beat Wycombe at home, who were pathetic, and then we lost to Peterborough and looked as if we wouldn't score if we played for a year. Losing 6-1 at Grimsby was the culmination of it all... so when he was sacked I can't say I was disappointed. Playing 7 defenders at QPR earlier in the season predictably ended in a 4-0 defeat. Surprisingly dropping Betsy and Gorre, who at the time were playing well and were by far our 2 most threatening players, resulted in us not scoring and getting hammered. I'm not saying he was a bad manager, but people seem to make out that he was brilliant and never did anything wrong. Yes he was a nice bloke, yes he did very well in the turmoil at the start of the season, but I think some people have got a selective memory.
