OK, they are Forest fans and anything from Nottingham is a load of /poo
But throwing bricks at buses aint on, women and kids were on those buses !!!
The police need to know who these nutters are
If a bunch of opposing fans want to get together and kick the hell out of each other then fair enough - but to involve innocent people - its just NOT on
By the way what was happening in the Manx Arms on Sheffield Road after the match

    Suprised at you..

Explain again what made Miners such a special case that they couldnt be affected by redundancy, compared to other industries. Didnt see too much intrest when the steel works closed. what about the 200,000 who lost jobs in the financial sector? Its time to move on.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.
    RE: Suprised at you..

The difference is that both the capacity and the demand was their for coal. The closures were much more to do with a political union-breaking agenda than economics.

Oh, and when the steel mills were being closed, the miners came out with the steelworkers.

As individuals I don't know anyone who actually misses working down the pit, but they do resent the the destruction of a town and its communities.

When we were on strike in1980

We were supported by the miners , something I for one was grateful for and didn't forget . Also , jobs losses in financial services do not have the same economic effect on communities that have been predominantly based on an established , manufacturing industry .

And would you lower yourself to shout Scab?

How about if Laura shouted it? Your a decent bloke from what i have read from you.Its all history nothing is going to change, life is unfair as you know for lots of working people.

Would I personally shout it ?

No . Would Laura shout it ? No . However , Jay's post sums it up perfectly for me . I have never vented my football anger at either oppostion fans or players . I try to shout encouragement to our own side ( not always an easy thing to do since Wembley ) . This is part of my nature , I simply do not insult others if I can possibly help it . However , if gloating taunts from Forest , Notts County and Mansfield fans re losing jobs , pits being closed down etc post 1985 cut no ice with me , I can certainly appreciate it more than aggrieves some Reds' followers . They , in turn , vent their fury with their own chants . It's , historically , part of football terrace life .
Sadly , I feel all this talk is deflecting us away from what , in the end , was a comfortable victory yesterday . The 2-0 win was very important , the "Scab" & "On the dole" chants are a side issue . Certainly , the Forest fans appear to be more concerned with what's happening at their club , on and off the field , than what the Barnsley fans were singing .

    I chant anything

But the "scab" chants would be something I wouldn't, as first of all I don't understand much about the mining!

But, yeah I do chant against other teams aswell as for the reds. what's so wrong with that?

    Hiya John

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it ( provided it's not racist ) . It simply isn't in my nature . If I'm watching Barnsley , I concentrate on my team . Anything the opposition fans say or sing is wasted on me , I'm focused on The Reds .
I suppose this enforces the view that I'm a boring , old git !:D

    Afternoon

I don't do racism or anything, but I find some anti-opposition chants pretty funny.

Take Blackpool for example when we were chanting "you can shove your f*cking tower up your arse" Their fans didn't take offence to that!!

The mining songs, and racism songs aren't "funny" or very nice, which is why I don't join in...but saying that not many anti-opposition songs/chants are very nice!! And they have lots of sweary words :pff

This post was about people throwing bricks at buses

How the hell did it end up about the miners strike?
the point he was making was that idiots should not throw bricks at buses with women and children on.........

The reference that everyone from Nottingham.

Clearly relates to "scabs". Hence his grudge against Notts miners.

    RE: You say that.....

yes - but it is easier to get a new job if you are in the financial sector, miners were highly skilled but limited. people who worked in the financial sector had a variety of skills to offer the commercial sector. i think the point is with the strike that it was not necessary to shut the pits in that manner and little in the way of contingencies were made for the commmunities which would be inevitably be devastated by the closures. but that was the way margeret thatcher approached things.
