I have been reading with interest the comments re 96th / 98th min penalty.

Think about it for a moment. it must have taken Foster at least 3 mins to walk off after being sent off, add that to 4 mins added time and youve just about got yer 8 mins.

Still think that Kettle is a cheat tho.

As someone said in another thread, 4minutes added on for 45 minutes of play. But then another 3 minutes added on for 4 minutes of play, it doesn't add up. Fuller took as long as Foster to get off in separate incidents. So your saying that for the rest of the second half (before stoppage time) there was no stoppages whatsoever.

If the correct time was added on for stoppages then every half should have at least 15 mins added on time given that the ball in play statistic is usually about 60 mins a game.

The referee is the sole timekeeper, he blows the final whistle when he decides the time has been played, timewasting in injury time will be more noticeable and more likely that a ref will make sure that the amount of time played is to his satisfaction.

The only way to prevent anomalies is to have an official timekeeper and to stop the clock when the ball is out of play - given that most games the ball in play is 55 to 60 mins, then stopping the clock when the ball is out and making it a 60 minute game would be the way forward.

All this nonsence could have easily been avoided...

Brian Howard should have booted the ball as far up the touchline as possible. Instead he played it inside giving the freekick away. I'm not trying to defend Mr Kettle in anyway because he had a shocking game and failed to control the match, but had Howard smashed the ball up the line or into the East Stand i thinkTrev would have blown up a lot sooner.

Everyone makes mistakes. Totally different game on Saturday. Another in form team that wil also take some beating. Need to focus on that now. Let Boxing Day go.

Exactly - that's what I and many others were saying on the way out of the ground.

    Too American!

But at least we could use the time the ball is out of play to water the pitch again

    You are right

A system that would ensure the correct amount of time is played should not be introduced as they use it in American sports!

    Yep , Also lets

bring in a rule that allows you to change the team completely when we are defending , that way we may be able to prevent the opposition from scoring from freekicks etc.We could also bring on a specialist freekick taker, that way Werling would not have to tackle anyone and we would get the best out of him. :) :)

Because we are solely talking about timekeeping within the sport of Association Football!

But I like the specialist freekick taker idea - just think that Beckham's career could be prolonged!

Southampton struggle away from home, I don't think they've kept a clean sheet all season away from St. Mary's. They even struggled against Colchester on Wednesday, who are in abysmal form.

    Bring em on!

Don't count yer chicks just yet, have seen many games over the years when the opposition has been useless away from home. Only to come to Oakwell and turn us over. I'm not being pessimistic, but this senario happens quite regular to BarnsleyFC.
