My IS provider has given me a warning about the amount of time during peak periods I spend downloading from the net .Given that I recently upgraded to a higher connection speed and that tests show that my actual speed is a lot slower than the one I am paying for is it time to change ? if so who is the best ISP./poo

Pipex get a very high rating yet my service in tarn in piss poor. Drops out 5 or 6 times a night.

Considering Blueyonder when I move house as available in new property.

You'll work with my friend, Meg. That's if you're at DV.

    Wanadoo

Wanadoo are probably your best bet, they've bought a load of telephone exchange slots from BT and so are able to offer faster speeds at cheaper prices than most people. They do 8 meg uncapped for £27.99 at the moment.

Bulldog also do 8 meg, but the tales of poor service are sadly true although not as bad as they used to be.

UKOnline will soon be able to offer 22 meg broadband (fastest in UK by a mile) but probably not in Tarn yet.

If you want something on the cheap try Homecall Broadband, they do unlimited phone calls and unlimited 2 meg internet for £24.99 a month

    Wanadoo don't do uncapped.

    (Yeah, I'm another Ventura cronie.)

    RE: Wanadoo are terrible

I had all sorts of problems with them!

Four hours preimuim rate technical support calls to some guy in India who didn't know his arse from his elbow.

It was awful - typical of a French company! 8MB was a complete lie as well when it did work: Wanadoo 8MB slower than BT 2MB, how does that work?

When I finally called it a day after trying with them for ages. I was on hold for 2 hours to technical support, gave up. Called sales (ENGLISH OF COURSE) got through instantly, they told me to phone technical support aT which point I exploded! I then waited 6 months for a refund after finally threatening solicitor letters.

    DONT GO NEAR THEM!

Blimey! That was an ordeal. Apart from my call to the technical support where the lady couldn't understand me, I've had no trouble with them at all and would recommend them to anyone.

I worked at Ventura, and had Wanadoo...... Never again to both.

Over charged me, always sent me to technical support when weren't needed (I wonder why!) and took them 3 attempts to cancel my membership.

Better offers and service out there

well I know someone who works for them, and they are *****.

they wouldn't recomend anyone joining them, and they work for them. Speeks volumes if you ask me.

Let me give you a scenario.

I am on BT, My cousin WAS on wanadoo. (now on BT)

When you have a problem with wanadoo, all they do is talk through a script, and then refer to BT. The result, it takes 3/4 weeks longer for an engineer to call out. Whereas if your with BT, they come out within days.

Personally, don't just look at the price, yes mine is slightly above what you would pay on the equivelant wanadoo, but Customer Services and response times are a heck of a lot better.

Coming from out of town, I can't comment on things like NTL etc, but when you are out in the sticks, I would say be very careful.

    RE: Wanadoo

Well technically not, but their 8 meg limit is 30GB/month which you'd be hard pressed to use.

I've nothing to do with Ventura, I used to work in Broadband provisioning and Faults for a telecoms company who shall remain nameless.

You get what you pay for nowadays.

Everyone wants everything without paying for it.

So, ADSL, with no limits - try either AOHell or Pipex.

You'd be better off with Cable from Blueyonder - if it's in your area.
