The strategy to get a young manager and a young squad has back fired on this occasion although it previously worked with with Andy Ritchie. Lee Johnson is in my opinion stereotypical pain in the ass boss you get at work, he knows how to talk a good game, uses buzz words the big bosses like, great at power point presentations, makes a good pr poster boy, good at Brown nosing, can be easily manipulated by the people in power. To sum it up he ticks all the boxes the bosses want but ultimately he's out of his depth and clueless and irritating to all that work under him or in this case us the fans. Now Andy Ritchie a young manager at the time slightly older than Johnson with a young squad, he wasn't a poster boy or project or easily manipulated which ultimately proved to be his downfall. Andy Ritchie was a man's man accompanied by Rick Holden they treated the players like men and got the lads to bond and socialise to build a team spirit so they were all in it together and it worked. For me the sacking of Ritchie was the beginning of our downfall and a sign of a change in footballing mentality where old school managers made way for your Lee Johnson types. I would sack Johnson and go for experience under the provision that the board sits back and let's them manage without any interference. I would look at neil Warnock even though I dont like him personally but he would guide these youngsters and by a minimum get us safe, coupled with his experience, promotions and knowledge of the club I think he would do well. Failing that i would approach ian Holloway and pray that his wife being a barnsley lass would convince him to come and motivate this squad. Rosler would also be an option and was my previous choice with Neil Adkins prior to Johnson being appointed. As much as I like Burton and heckingbottom I feel we would be substituting Johnson's naivety for more inexperience.
You think Neil Warnock at his age with his wealth would come and take a job at Barnsley? Absolutely no chance!
