Thinking about going to Stocksbridge v Ossett Albion (Come on Albion) ko 1pm in the car before our home game with Hartlepool on Boxing Day. Should it be possible to do it without missing kick off of the Reds match? Thinking about leaving at 2.35/40 but this might push it getting a parking space for the Reds. never driven from one to the other so don't know times for doing it.
Wouldn't recommend you try you would be seriously pushing it both time-wise and in finding somewhere to park.
I used to live in stocksbridge I know the traffic should be a bit lighter than your average saturday but I still think you have got no chance setting off at that time. To get parked and get in the ground before kick off I never left home later than 2.10pm
RE: Happy memories! I played footy in a Sunday League match a few years ago on the pitch behind the sports centre at Stocksbridge. I think we drew 2-2 with the Royal Oak of Deepcar. The pitch was a right swamp. We were short of players and needed the points to avoid relegation so I got roped in. We had a Sunday match on at Oakwell that day. It must have been an early kick off 1pm. So I had about 25 minutes to get to Oakwell. I changed me boots and blasted up the By-pass to the M1 at Birdwell, 100mph to Dodworth and parked at Spartacus's house. I got change into something a bit cleaner at the side of the car and climbed over the high wall into Grove Street. I must have looked a picture a 50 year old, face and hands covered in mud going over a wall.I then had to climb upto the East Stand Upper.I arrived at my seat knackered but I only missed about 10 minutes of the match. Oh, and we did avoid relegation so it was worth it in a masocistic sort of way. ff (dancin) (dancin) (dancin)
RE: Happy memories! I can't remember the exact date. But I played for Wombwell Snooker Club FC. I played at right back.Bald, short and fat. I think it may have been in Div 4 or 5. I was still fit enough to play at that level then and it was before I injured my knee. I only remember the Royal Oak (Deepcar) being in the same division for one season. We didn't play them very often. (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (pint) (NOOO) (puke)
We once played em in a friendly yonks ago and Gail from Corrie was at match, she told us she was life president of Ossett or something like that. Does that sound true or was I in an early episode of the X files?
