I look at it like this (hidebehindsofa)

Before Gudjon was sacked the BBS was full of comments asking why we appointed the guy - give Richie more time
    REMEMBER
Conlon is coming back fron injury. He has also lost a lot of weight over the summer trying to get fit. I would say he is only playing at 75% of is capabilities. The only attacking alternative is Nardia and he is coming back from injury. We are short of an alternative up front.
Reid was suspended. Just at a time when Reid and Carbon are looking good together. But this again raises the question of another central defender. Kay is'nt a central defender and nither is Hassel. So we need another central defender even if its just to sit on the bench.
On top of this we have Howard, Kell and Hassel out injured

All in all if we put the first team out we can win this league
If we get injuries or suspensions we will finish mid table
    Why ?
Because the squad relies too much on the young guys coming through who are not quite ready yet
    We need a bigger squad

I seem to remember he "came back from injury" at Blackpool last season..

plus he's had teh whole of preseason to get in shape.

    Face it he's ****

'We need a bigger squad'?? That costs money, Nudger - something we haven't got!

Or are fans expecting Patrick to put his hands in his pockets again??

Can't see that happening somehow - after all, he's put more than enough of his own dosh into this club already, and Shepherd has made it clear he wants the club to stand on its own merits.

We may get one more player in - but I suspect we're going to have to manage the rest of the season with what we've got. To be honest, if those players play to their capabilities, we ought to be good enough to make a challenge.

i also dont buy the coming back from injury excuse

he has had since the beginning of may to get fit. and that isnt including the fitness work and reserve games he was doing before the blackpool match.

i would say that he has been back in full training for for well over 4 months. if that isnt enough for him then he might as well pack it in now.

and does a lack of fitness mean that his brain isnt in shape yet? fitness has nothing to do with a lack of awareness and intelligence in the box. it doesnt stop him from standing in front of defenders and it doesnt mean tha the has to jump for a ball after it has gone over head.

I still return to my earlier view...

all we've changed is one player - hayes for Chopra

Its essentially the same team that achieved mid table last year
So WHY expect more than last year

    This is It

robbie williams wasnt at left back last year, tonge wasnt at right back last year, mcphail wasnt in central midfield last year.

    NO MONEY !!!........then its mid-table

    Money maketh the team
Ask the fans of any football league club in the country
Start by asking the fans of Chelsea then go all the way down the league and finish by asking the fans of Wigan
If we haven't got a team of directors to put money into the club - we aint going nowhere !!!
    Its as simple as that

As for the team - I think they are playing better this season but we have lost our cutting edge (Chopra) and still are short of central defenders

We are exactly were we belong, the team is worse than last season and we shall be nearer a relegation place than a promotion one.

so basically we should all give up now?

we have no big money director so we might as well call it a day then?

no of course not. a lot of teams have 'no money' but do well, its all to do with how the club is run and im afraid to say that ours isnt being run very well. Barnsley football club could very easily run at a profit if people were willing to make changes

Agree that other clubs manage to survive on a pittance AM - Crewe being a good example.

Small fan-base, no rich directors but a well-run club who have stuck by their manager over the decades and made excellent use of their academy system. Rob Hulse and Dean Ashton are currently two shining examples of how you can make money out of your youngsters.

However, if you think that BFC could easily run at a profit if people were willing to make changes - then in my view you're overlooking certain facts. Changes ARE being made, slowly it's true - but have you forgotten the projected deficit that was forecast for the first couple of seasons when Ridsdale took charge (based on the situation after Doyle's residency)?? Three MILLION pounds wasn't it?? Where or how exactly do you think that shortfall is going to be resolved? ST sales? - erm, no. Gate receipts? - erm, no. Corporate hospitality and advertising income? Possibly - but that takes time to build up. That deficit exists at this point in time - although it may have been reduced (or increased), only the annual figures to last May will throw any light on that.

A club (unless you're Sheffield Wednesday) can't possibly survive long-term operating at such a loss. So, one of the obvious 'quick' solutions is to trim running costs - players, office staff etc., etc., which is exactly what Shepherd is currently doing. Once the deficit is cleared, then it's fair to say that Barnsley SHOULD be run at a profit, or at the very least - break even. I suspect we won't be in that position for at least another season.
