In a last ditch attempt to avoid total annihilation, would the Tories bring the funny-haired clown back as leader?

Mad I know. But they are madder than a box of frogs.

More likely Penny Mordaunt to replace Sunak. However, highly unlikely before the election.

Not as leader, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him joining the campaign trail at some point.

Rational thinking there Mr Finn. But I’m trying to imagine what a pack of rabid hyenas might do.

Johnson would definitely pull more votes in but it wont happen at this stage. Mordaunt for next leader. I think I might have a flutter on her

There's no mechanism that I can see, given parliament is dissolved and the MP's are scattered far and wide - or have stepped down.

I think he'll stay away. Even with his ego he'll recognise that there's no value in associating himself with the incoming electoral slaughter. He'd be wise to keep his nose clean and then swoop in when Sunak goes on the basis of "being the last Tory to win an election before it all went to ****."

As much as I hate to say it, his brand of bluff and bluster would be very useful in opposition - where he can say as much ******** and grab as may headlines as he wants without having to implement anything.

He's got no chance of winning the next election, but a decent chance of winning the one after that.

Of the choices they've had recently, she's long since been the one who represents the most credible threat to Labour, as she performs quite well at the dispatch box and in the general verbal sparring against an opposite number. She still has potential for insane moments, such as her bizarre 'stand up and fight' conference speech, but by current Tory standards she's more moderate. However, she's been overlooked twice by their membership now, due to not being extreme enough for their continued lurch to the right.

The problem with betting on her as next leader is that she's in a marginal seat so is unlikely to be an MP after the election. They'll be choosing a leader from a pool of those in seats which are 'too safe' for them to lose, putting lunatics like Braverman and Badenoch more in the frame, as they seem more likely to survive the election as MPs, albeit the potential pool appears to be shrinking as more and more safe seats fall under the umbrella of 'potentially loseable' as the Tory campaign continues to go further off the rails.

It seems that Sunak's election call wrong-footed most of his party. Talk on radio tonight is that Jeremy Hunt wasn't even consulted. Constituency parties appear to have been ill-prepared. His political judgement is looking worse by the day.

Some say the nutters were getting ready to oust him and so he called an election to put two fingers up at them

They, being the Tory blue rinse brigade were never going to elect Sunak were they!

He's also the wrong colour for some. Sad, but I think I'm correct

Since he isn't an MP, the Parliamentary Party couldn't pick him and the incumbent PM is hardly likely to make him a Lord so no, it won't happen. Even if the Tories forced a no confidence vote which Sunak lost, he still wouldn't have to resign as PM. It would effectively leave the Tories leaderless unless they picked another MP. The timescales now make it impossible.

The "binbag of custard" isn't currently registered as a candidate and seems to be enjoying himself turning in racisms in his columns for the Daily Mail. He's also banned from Parliament for a period of time after his suspension.
