The efforts that the ref put into stopping the cynical time wasting yesterday were pathetic. Vale were wasting time from the first minute to the last - and yet, as usual, there's one token booking in the last five minutes. I know all teams do it - but from a spectators point of view it ruins things. My other favourite is the absolute farce when any free kick is taken. Whoever concedes the free kick will dribble the ball 10 yards in the wrong direction pretending not to hear the ref, then leave the ball there. The ball will be retrieved and sent back to the wrong free kick location, moved again. Then you'll have the absolute joke where an opposition player sprints 10 yards to stand in front of the ball and stop a quick free kick being taken, and even worse most of the time they even prevent the ball being played forward. Meanwhile about a minute has been taken out of the game. I know it's minor in the grand scheme of things, and not the reason we lost yesterday... But we as fans go to see a game of football, not teams persistently breaking up play by breaking the laws of the game. Sort it out fa!!! Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Re: Time-wasting / cynical play at free kicks - when will the fa do anything about th Yep, The ref seemed reluctant to take action yesterday despite constantly telling them to get on with it. What about the goal celebrations one where they celebrate in stages. The advanced players run to the corner of the away end then 20 seconds later the defenders run over and the celebrations continue. Then there's the steady walk back. Shame we can't blame the ref and time-wasting for our predicament.
Re: Time-wasting / cynical play at free kicks - when will the fa do anything about th It's one of the things that regular readers of my reports will know I go on about. It happens every game at Oakwell whenever the opposition go ahead (ie most games). It is nothing short of cheating and the FA/FL or whoever seem powerless or unwilling to do anything about it. It runs right through the game and it is one of the things that question why I bother watching it. Footballers in general really are the biggest cheats in the sporting world on all kinds of level. Pretending to be injured, deliberately stopping a free kick being taken etc etc. The most stupid one is that decision that allows the keeper to take a goal kick anywhere he likes along the six yard line. Who the heck decided on that rule change?? Alnwick was a master at that yesterday. Whichever side the ball went out, he ambled as slowly as he liked to the opposite side. But before that of course he ignored the ball if it is was thrown past him by a spectator, pretending he hadn't seen it or something. I honestly don't see how new supporters coming to the game of football would be tempted to keep going. It's the most cynical of all games that I can think of and seems to be played for the benefit of the players rather than as a form of entertainment. I'm sure that I only go because it's an unbreakable habit.
I agree vale were time wasting , but I remember Barnsley wasting more time than any other team I have ever seen at Sheffield United away last season . I wish the fa would cut it out completely. But Barnsley are just as bad as anyone else if not worse when we are leading Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Re: Time-wasting / cynical play at free kicks - when will the fa do anything about th I notice we do a lot of time wasting ourselves when its our free kick. We rush it, have to take it back to the right spot or retake a static ball. And even worse, we take it then quickly before our players and defenders have even reached the area let alone in position. I also notice how teams vs US slow and speed the tempo up using set pieces when they are on top or under pressure. But not us. Experience experience experience. Sadly lacking.
