Just thought I'd let you know how Stalis went. We got back on Monday morning and this is the first time I could be arsed to go on the computer!!! It was everything you said it was. The Amazones Villas were about 300 yards from the sea front on the far left of the bay as you look at the sea. It was a nice walk in to Stalis at night. We tended to go in the 9 Muses taverna or one called the Edem, both of which had excellent food and were ever so friendly. It was touching 40 degrees each day, so the only time we ventured anywhere else was for a day to Aghios Nikolaos. 14 Euros for a 30km bus ride for 3 kids and 2 adults through stunning scenery. I can see why it's your favourite place. We wouldn't hesitate to go again. If you plan to go self catering anytime again, the Amazones is a great place to stay. The accomodation is clean but basic, as is most of Greece, it is very friendly and well run by a mad Greek called Dimitri. It was my wife's 40th while we were there and he went out to Malia on the q.t. to get me a cake for her!!! I thought he was going to some shop nearby for one. It's in the Portland brochure, but it is far cheaper to book direct by e-mail to Dimitri. I can let you have the e-mail address if you want. Would, and will, definitely go again and again.
Hi Fearless Tyke,
It was lovely of you to bother to reply to my musings.. I really appreciate it and am so happy that you both found Stalis as wonderful as both myself and hubby have found it over the years we have been going.
I did my usual, and cried when we left a week ago as I love it so much.
I am interested in the addresses you mentioned, although we tend to go to our favourite apartment year in year out and know Manos and his family so well.
The area is wonderful, the mountains and life up there, , Herssonissos for the shopping, and just about everything else, the food, Cretan wine, service from the Tavernas and apartments and what else could you want?
I have been lucky enough and priveliged enough to travel the world, Sri Lanka, Bali,Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Singapore - you name it- but for both of us Greece is the country. We adore it - so glad you loved it and don't make it your last trip, If you want to know about any of ther other resorts in Crete, let me know but you will find Stallis is the best.
Cheers and so glad you both had fun and that you and your partner have lovely memories of the best that Greece has to offer.
Cheers
Tina

First time I've been on again since the last message!! Let me know if you want the e-mail address anytime. Otherwise, keep enjoying pretending to be Judith Chalmers!!! ff
