Austrian Chancellor: 'You don’t only have rights, you have obligations'

(He is)" ....sorry that Austria has had to make Covid-19 vaccinations a legal requirement, but that the current low take-up rate is too little, too late.
Nobody wants the situation where you don’t get access to an intensive care unit bed because the beds are filled with people who did not get the vaccination and have Covid-19".

As with many things in life Rights come with responsibilities. In fact , as far as nature is concerned, you have no 'rights' to speak of.

Austria is not that much worse than the UK really. Neither is Germany.

I did read an interesting thread the other day around Austria and Covid. It is a federal republic with devolved healthcare. The "conservative" PM and federal governments in 8 of the 9 federal regions decided that Covid was over and removed the mask mandates, etc in those regions - at least partially as a bid to win the recent elections there - and rates eventually rocketed in those regions. In Vienna, which is more of a liberal, left leaning woke area, the "left-leaning" federal government kept the requirements and cases are currently the lowest in the country despite the highest population density.

Both way behind the uk in vaccination rates. Preferring lockdowns. Meaning a lot more serious cases. And rebellion of the masses.
    Vaccination is the key.

Boris and his delayed 'freedom' day in July that should have happened June 21st has seemingly put us in a better position than our European neighbours. Who would have thought it o_O

3% first dose, 5% second (Austria) or .5% first, 4% second (Germany) is not "way behind". Both are ahead of the USA - and well ahead of other countries in Europe with issues at the moment (Czechia, Slovakia). Don't forget, we currently losing around 1,000 people each week up to the latest complete figures :(

We have a heck of a lot of protection from vaccines and natural immunity. Releasing restrictions in July got a lot of noise from the likes of Labour, but it's ended up being justified. It gave a good three months of warm weather for natural immunity to build up while hospitals were lower on covid patients. It's lead to us being in a better place now. Compare that to Europe where many countries kept masks, social distancing etc and brought in vaccine passports. So when they relaxed restrictions they did it too late because flu season was just around the corner and now they are in a mess.

I'm surprised that people are supportive rather than horrified at the prospect of the state mandating vaccinations. Are the same people who are advocating this approach as being a good thing also in favour of people with positive covid tests being rounded up and transported by the army to quarantine camps, as is currently happening in Australia?

Where do you draw the line?
