Right i for one agreed last year that he didnt play with any heart whatsoever and maybe had 5 games where he controlled the game and everything went through him (eg Luton away, Torquay at home) but i have to say that we all need to lay off the bloke. so what if he said in the summer that if a better offer came in he'd go. For now he's a barnsley player and all fans should get behind each and every one of them including mcpahil. the boy has class and i think out of the two home games, he is putting in a lot more effort than last season. everyone knows he isnt blissed with pace and maybe he can be an idle get but we need someone like him in our team, someone who can pull strings when its asked from him. today was a bad example with barry conlon. he had a poor game but what fans forgot today when they were getting on his back was the brilliant defensive duties he provided especially form their set pieces (apart from when he miss kicked it). Now come on all fans. lets get behind the lads especially when they are having a bad game cos we are all buggers to get on someones back when thay have a stinker. come on u reds!!!
have to agree there, colgan sometimes gives me kittens. the amount of times he should have come off his line and comanded the area today. its the same with both keepers. the need to be more confident. this will come with flinders as i think he is a excellent prospect but for now, we need an experienced goalie who commands his area
We need a decent experienced keeper that can show Flinders how to be the best he can be this for me is not Colgan sooner we get rid the better
i know people might not agree with me but i personally think mcphail can come good this season. as for keepers i agree with tom. flinders has quality but we need a new keeper. i also think neil austin was a bit poor today. great run for the penalty though. he's a better right back or centre half. id play robbie at left back at wroe at left wing until we get howard fit
my opinion on Austin is i think he is the best defender at the club and is proud to wear a barnsley shirt. I have to agree left back is not his position
agreed, i also think he wears his shirt with pride and left back isnt his position. he just seemed a bit lost there today. i dont know if anyone else will agree but i think our two centr halfs have been solid in the two home games. burns was MoM for me today. hes another one who will never stop trying. Mr consistancy
Regarding the "Red" in your name. Does it refer to you once being a player or once being a watcher. If your opinions on what makes a good player are anything to go by. I would say that whether you played or watched,it can't have been more than once each.
yes i was once on the books for barnsley and have always watched them from 1994 onwards. like i said. some people wont agree with me as i may see things different to others by being a ex player
mcphail hs shown that he has the ability but in well over 90% of his games so far he has put no effort in at all. he was actually stood in the centre circle looking at the scoreboard to see how leeds were doing today. if that is commitment then im a dutchman.
it seemed to me that both Carbon and Reid were oblivious to colgan and were not listiening to him I am begining to think the problem is not him
RE: mcphail hs shown that he has the ability I have to agree he puts in very little effort at all. I would prefer Kay in the middle with Burns
RE: mcphail hs shown that he has the ability like i say, last season he was oblivious. lets get behind the guy and he will come good. i personally can see from his performance in the last 2 home games that the lad is actually trying and putting a bit more effort in. he will come good
RE: mcphail hs shown that he has the ability The thing is we cant afford to wait on players like Mcphail me need good performances now
no he isnt he put a good performance in against swindon, i'll give him that. but today there was no effort at all. his biggest fan was even begging richtea to take him off for being idle.
You said that you though he only really contributed in about 5 games last season. How many do you think he is likely to contribute in this season and do you really think that BFC can afford to carry any one player for 75% or more of the season, just in the hope that in three or four games he may show some of the talent that he undoubtably has but which is far outweighed by his care less attitude.
RE: mcphail hs shown that he has the ability kay and burns are two similar to play together. burns breaks up the attacks while mcphail is the playmaker. personally i've always liked the 3-5-2 formation that we played under danny wilson. for a line up i would have Flinders GK Carbon CB Kay CB Reid CB Hassell RW Burns CM McPhail CM Shuker ( playing behind the two CF In a Marcelle/Bullock way) Nardiello CF Hayes CF
all i ask is to give him chance, new season, new start. if he is the same as last season at christmas than yes u will be right, but for now lets just try get behind them all
